Of course, of the 11 international signings none are in MLB.com top 30, where the Yankees signed the 1st. 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 25th. Oh but the Yankees will have to pay a penalty !!!

Of course none of the 11 international signings were in MLB.com's top 30 international prospects. Wouldn't want to over spend.

Whiners in full force, I see. Any ideas on deals with the Rangers, anyone?

Burkhardt interviewed Recker before the game last night. " We're really close or right there or it's just a matter of coming together" or whatever he said. Once they went down 3-0, I turned it off and watched reruns of Worlds Dumbest on TRU TV. This team is so hard to watch. I was thinking about going to the game on Sunday because I have train ticket and may not be able to go anymore this year after this month due to surgeries coming up. Don't know if I want to go or not.

Serious question: Seeing that Sandy has now made two absolutely pathetic remarks this year: (spending won't pickup until fans start going to games; and: the team is better than their record due to run differential), would you say he is the worst GM of all time?

Guys, if you are true Mets fans, you have only one thing to hope for: losing. We have to hope to lose every game 17-0. As long as Sandy can argue that the team is "close" and "run differential," there will be no changes and the fraud on the fans will continue. Let's go, Texas Rangers!

Did the Mets sign any of the child refugees from Honduras? That would only cost 10 cents per hour.

THIS TEAM IS SO SAD AND PATHETIC. WHEN ARE CHANGES GOING TO BE MADE? THE DAYS AND GAMES ARE ALL THE SAME.

I think "Steven Matregrano" is the pen name for Sandy Alderson. C'mon, Sandy, use your own name!

David Wright does nothing to motivate the team or carry the team or fire up the troops. Not a natural leader at all and it was stupid to give him that big contract and captain badge.

Should have done a full rebuild and traded Reyes and Wright instead of this in between b.s. that only results in years and years of mediocre teams.

I tune in and watch pretty much every game from over here in the UK.

Obviously not being in NYC I'm a little detached from the media coverage and as a general rule I'm usually a positive fan and I try and see the good things happening...but my goodness this team is hard to watch at the moment.

There's the odd individual performance of note, but it's so rare that the team pulls it together and produces for a week or two. It just seems like there is so much that needs to change that I'm not sure when it happens.

Turned the game off last night after the 3rd inning.  Mental health break needed from this team, beginning now.

Can someone explain something to me: why does Sandy Alderson continue to b.s. Met fans?  Does he actually think we will believe his total b.s.?  Are there a group of fans that will believe the s_it that dribbles out of his mouth?  Are those the people he is appealing to?  Makes no sense to me, I just don't get it, someone please explain.

To be fair, I think we did sign #26 on the list, Kevin Hernandez?? But you still bring up a good point, even the Astros were more aggressive. If the Wilpons are really that strapped that they cannot spend a few million extra to get some young top flight intl talent, why even be in the game? If I were them I would be embarrassed to have become a laughing stock.

And of course the Yankees do this:

@Buster_ESPN: Depending on which Top Prospect list you prefer, one scout says NYY have deals with either 10 of top 15 international amateurs, or 11 of 18.

@Lets Go Mets!

If we can win our next game by 5 runs, we get our run differential back to even since Terry's comment on winning 10 out of 15.

Doesn't matter that we would be 1-3, we're even in run differential.  Time to celebrate.

Stop it, Sandy. Get off this website and focus on the team!

Lets Go Mets!
Lets Go Mets!

We believe!  And the Met chant has now become:

"I do believe that we can win!"

@hankypanky I would love if they did, but Sandy and company will only pull the trigger for prospects.

@Father Dooley What's pathetic is that anyone is still harping on the comment about not having spending money.  Like its Alderson's fault the owners are broke and in debt and we're dependent on revenue at the gate to increase payroll.

Eric Slater

@upstaphan The real issue here is that Wright can't do it all on his own and needs support.   With essentially no other power threats in the lineup, other teams pitch around him, and pitch him up and in to back him off the plate (with no fear of retritbution from the Mets pitching staff).  How great would it be if we had Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado type hitters around him.

@upstaphan I've been saying both of those points for years

Father Dooley

@David Allen Pratt They won't make any changes, they will just waste their time trying to see what worthless prospects they can pick up.

He likes his paycheck. He can't say the Wilpon's have no money, that would be to easy.I love this team but it's getting old.

@Father Dooley Yes, there is a group of people who absolutely believe him.......WE ARE NOT NORMAL...normal people dont go on a website, to follow and comment on a  bad team. We sir are the fanatics who follow every move, sure we're onto him....but most people dont care enough to care (if that makes sense)

This is a big city, there are plenty of people who just want to go to one or two games a year and see baseball, they dont care if the team is bad or the owner is broke.  Afterall, while attendance is bad, it isnt that bad, people are still going.   Hard-core baseball fans might have quit but you still have corporate seats and camps and daycares and saturday games with the son etc etc (people still go)

Its why Wilpon can put on this charade...cause it will work!  And in another decade, when debt is at manageable levels...we'll go back to trying to win games.

He blames the fans for the losing. He is on record saying he will spend when the Mets fans start spending. It's our fault, in his eyes.

@sayhey24 How can the Wilpons suffer embarrassment? They have no shame and no pride in being a New York Sports Franchise owners.

@rock44  This dude is the biggest moron on here.  I find it best to ignore him.

@Father Dooley As it should be.  The team has holes all over the roster.  We're not going to swing a deal for Tulo or Stanton or Goldschmidt or any other pipe dream MVP caliber player you can think of- not to mention our owners have no money.  So any deal needs to be a 'one for many' where we trade one guy for several prospects.  That's what rebuilding teams do.

rock44

Ok, then enjoy the Wilpons, Sandy, and Terry because no changes are coming.

upstaphan
upstaphan

Changes? Terry is doing a great job and the team is really better than they appear due to their run differential. Haven't you been paying attention?

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

@anymos @Father Dooley That's unfortunate.  Once there was a way to get guys like Piazza, Hernandez, Carter, in  mid-season.  Not any more.  Now we have a good 5 plus years more of losing.

anymos
anymos

@Father Dooley @anymos  I'll have to admit, I don't pay too much attention to what is said anymore.  It was apparent very early in Sandy's tenure this was going to be much harder than he thought and the Wilpons were understating the depth of their financial difficulties.  I hoped they might make a signing like Peralta or Choo or Granderson and we could compete this year, but as soon as the free agency period started and we heard terms like 'sticker shock,' those hopes were squashed.

I get it. But it is not logical to me from a business perspective. Its like me saying that i will open a restaurant and will charge patrons as though its a high end restaurant, but wont be able to afford to serve good food until people start coming in droves for bad food and bad service. To that end, why should I pay hundreds of dollars to go see a Mets game live, knowing that I have a really good good chance to walk away bummed out, when I can watch on TV for free?

anymos

@Father Dooley @anymos Hopefully not five more years.  We have starting pitching and a young, cheap effective bullpen.  Those are two big marks in our favor.  Keep your fingers crossed TDA continues to take off- a good hitting catcher is worth his weight in gold and would be another big mark in our favor.  If he finally delivers, then we can look at dealing some of our other prospects for an outfielder- maybe not someone on a major league roster, but a blue chip major league ready kind of guy.

anymos
anymos

@Father Dooley  It is what it is- our owners don't have any money. The GM continues to try and find bargains to field a competitive team until, hopefully, some prospects make it. He hit on one bargain with Byrd last year, struck out with CY this year. Teams in our position don't rebuild in less than five years- at least I can't think of any. Beane is probably the best in the business at this game, and it took him 5 years to create this latest incarnation of the A's.

anymos
anymos

@Father Dooley @Steven Matregrano @tullydew It has nothing to do with logic.  Its the financial reality facing the team.  The freaking owners are broke!  He's not blaming anyone!  He said the team has to play better- once they win, fans need to come back, once fans come back- he'll have money to spend again.  I can't believe this is still a topic of discussion- and that people don't get this has nothing to do with Alderson and everything to do with the Wilpons.
