These last four games have been a lot of fun. Remember what Jim Mora used to say about the playoffs. Team has a LONG way to go. Texas is a dreadful team (just overtaken by the Astros) and Atlanta has been very streaky. Hell, they swept us last week. But isn't the team just more FUN to watch with the kids out there (and performing)?

How come on the right side of the page the standings say the METS are 8 games back, and here it says they are 7.5 games back?

Which is correct or is there a neighborhood play?

Catch Marlins first, one step at a time. Last night's lineup looked better than serviceable. Would need some luck to get into the race now. Where's the black cat when you need him. With all the security today would be impossible to get him in.

Colon needs to pitch well tonight, this is going to be a really really tough game to win, but Colon needs to pitch a quality game, and not just a good game after blowing it in the first, but a good effort all around 7+ innings less than 2 runs.

Reality check:

The Mets are on pace for 75 wins.

Win out to the break and at least give us a reason to come back and watch in July and August.

Amazing what a little offense at the right times can do to perk up a team and fans. Lets Go Mets. Come to the park with the brooms.

For now the Mets are back to being fun to watch. Forget posting the standings. Get to .500 and have a few consistent win streaks. The standings will take care of themselves.

Mannn people can be so negative. Enjoy this win streak, fellas. I understand we've been here before (hopes raised only to be let down). But one of these times they won't let us down. Why not now? Our pitching is great. Our lineup is coming around. That's huge.

Also it's easy to forget that the last few years our "needs" at deadlines were many. One or two relievers, a SP, a catcher, a first basemen, a shortstop, and an outfielder or two. Of course we aren't going to "buy" or win down the stretch with so many needs. This year we really only have a couple of needs. A LF and maybe a SS. That's improvement. Our pitching has been great all year, especially after parting ways with Farnsworth and Valverde. But we've filled those holes. Now we're hitting. Anything can happen.

One at a time. So we focus on tonight and worry about tomorrow's game tomorrow.

It's July 10. Far too early for them to give up on this season, even if others seem to have.

Just nice to watch a team play the way we know they can.Fun to watch.

I know we aren't going to contend for anything but at least they are performing better and seeing the younger guys produce is huge. d'Arnaud looks like the catcher we thought we were getting (that's why you don't give up on youngsters too soon), Duda's improvement is big. Even Tejada has played much better (as much as that kills me to admit).

Now play Lagares every day and cut the chord with CY. Throw Kirk out there and give him CY's game time.

Leave deGrom alone and in the rotation. Hopefully some of the young guys down on the farm can continue to develop and add more going forward.

Can the Mets become a .500 team before we post the Wild Card standings?  They're 7 games under .500.

Nice little win streak but remember we are so really far away from contending for a playoff spot Yes I am enjoying this but I seen this show already and won't be surprise to lose the next 4

@James Colon needs to start pitching in the first inning. I remember they used to warm Doc up earlier and longer before a game cause he had similar problems in 1st inning but his problems may have stemmed from other problems he had.

@bleck319

I think they threw out five or six wins early in the year, using players like Valverde and Farnsworth to close.  Who knows how many wins they threw out by giving CY over 200 at bats in the middle of the order.  Hopefully, those problems are behind us.

I think they can reach .500 this year, with this good starting pitching, as long as poor fundamentals don't cost too many games.  The wild card is another matter.

Too bad they made so many missteps early on.

@Not4Nutten Agreed. I hate talking about the playoffs when they're still 7 games under .500. It just seems so ridiculous to me.

Michael Frias

@BringBackDaveTelghe  Agreed.  Even if we're watching just to see if they can overachieve a little and get to 82-85 wins, and give us at least a little optimism going into 2015.

Why give up? The team thinks they have a chance. That's all that matters.

How do you KNOW we aren't going to contend? These are the Mets, read your history, we specialize in miracles, and 7 games out in early july s "in it"

@Andrew Fraraccio Me neither. But they do look a lot better:  Duda, Tejada, d'Arnaud, Granderson - all hitting. Solid bullpen. I'll give credit where it's due.

@rico All due respect, I've come to HATE that moniker.  I am sick of every success this organization accomplishes being based on "miracles" or "amazin" unbelievable play.  How about they win based on preparation?  Based on being the best team on the field and not something damn "amazin"?  People (teams, players, GMs, fans) don't take the Mets seriously because they're 374 games under .500 as an org and still all too happy to romanticize being a darling underdog.  There's nothing darling about an underdog playing in the biggest media market in the country.

Kurt Carson

@rico Teams 7 games out or more in September are still in it.... if it's us in first place. But seriously, agreed. Enjoy the second half and believe!

@Michael Frias @Eddie_Dean @Not4Nutten They're posting the wildcard standings. And it's not like they just posted the full wildcard standings, they cut it off at the Mets. That kind of implies the Mets are actually in a wild card race, which they're clearly not.

@Andrew Fraraccio @nykjw2 They looked this way before they went into the series with the yankees, than look what happened. This is just one big roller coaster ride.
