In 43 PA's at Citi Field, CarGo is batting .132 with 1 HR. In 58 PA's at Citi Field, Tulo is batting .438 with 5 HR. The only higher batting averages are Bryan LaHair (only 16 PA's), Carlos Gomez, and Miggy.

Just saw a wonderful headline from two days ago over on Bill Price's blog: "I'm not getting sucked in, I'm not getting sucked in, I'm not getting sucked in"

Per Adam Rubin

Bartolo Colon will start Game one after the all-star game, Gee start game two, and (assuming there are not setbacks), Niese will come off the DL for game 3

A bit off topic, but Thursday's loss can be partially blamed on Entertainment Weekly for jinxing our beloved Mets with the following synopsis for "Gang Related":

"The updated three-strikes rule creates a headache for the task force. It's also been a headache for the Mets. Hey-o!"

Cleveland keeps winning, but definitely need another starter. Seems like a good match for the Mets. Bartolo for Tyler Naquin and Joe Randle. Naquin is AA outfielder and is there 5th or 6th best prospect. Randle is a middle infielder. I know there seems to be a glut there w Flores, Reynolds, Herrera, Cechini, etc. but you can never have enough options there in the minors and those guys can typically play other positions.

Not asking for the top prospect

What happened to all of those guys who were destitute when they picked Duda over Ike?

If the Mets can keep the winning momentum, a .500+ season is doable. If Sandy can add just one accomplished batter, a play-off spot is not impossible. The Mets players are playing better ball overall. Keeping the momentum is a challenge but attainable.

I'm not a fan of 4:10 starts. Messes up my Saturday.

Add Matt Bowman to the top pitching prospect list. He is now in AAA.

@mets2death Actually thought TdA would get a day off, but it's all good.

@MetsFan1962 45-24 the rest of the way to even get into the hunt for the WC. I'd say that's pretty close to impossible.

Gotta avoid the usual post All Star break swoon. Once again they head out West after the break. Seems like that's happened a few times

What would you prefer? 1:10 or 7:10 P.M.?

@mets2death  Still not convinced!! He needs to start hitting a lot better in key situations. 0 for 10 with bases loaded. .111 avg. late and close in games. This is pitiful for a middle of the lineup hitter who is expected to provide some punch.

@Olerud42 @Kurt Carson can you imagine if we let go of F-Mart instead of Gomez

To be fair though, you don't know if Gomez would have matured the same way in New York with the pressure and coaching

EDIT: At least we got a no hitter and a Cy Young quality season out of trading Gomez, the Twins got fleeced

@4EverMets @mets2death  You're splitting hairs. He's hitting .289/.404/.603 overall with runners on base. Anyone would be happy with that from a middle-of-the-order guy.

@4EverMets @mets2death thats really grapsing with straws aint it? I'm sure i can find a split stat for every player in the league thats bad

I like how you think that's not getting it done but you do not have a solution that you think could get it done.

Yeah definitely. It's always tough to analyze those kinds of trades bc New York is a completely different place.

He just missed on a couple of balls yesterday though. I like him in the 5 hole. Give it time.

@Sylvan Migdal @Steve Finelli @Eric Koeller Thanks for correcting me.  It was close but how could I forget Mr Clean, Mr Ego Steve Phillips!! How would u like to be remembered for Trading Kazmir for Zambrano and trading Jose Bautista away.  How's that for a talent evaluator??

Eric Koeller
Eric Koeller

@Kurt Carson not only that, but Gomez didn't break out until 4 seasons after the trade. I don't think Mets fans (or the media), would be patient enough to wait the long and would have called for him out of NY

Eric Ohlson
Eric Ohlson

It was Jim Duquette not Phillips who trade Kazmir.

Wasn't Bautista traded by a few teams though? It took awhile for him to develop.

Brandon Austin

He was really close to trading David Wright also

4EverMets

@iamjimmybx  Agreed!! Right now Duda is a "vanilla ballplayer" which means his numbers might look good but are compiled in irrelevant situations, hitting when the game is NOT on the line, a la ARod or McReynolds in his day.

In reality, it was Jeff Wilpon who made that trade. No knowledgeable baseball person trades a team's best prospect for V. Zambrano.

Steve Finelli

@Eric Ohlson It was really Jeff Wilpon.  Corrected twice.  One more and I'm out!

@1harris1  It was Duquette as he admitted as much on an interview on the WFAN. He also claimed that the trade was made on the recommendation of Peterson "I can fix Zambrano in 10 minutes" fame.

@kefhrny17 pretty much yeah. Guy was considered a once in a generation prospect

plus the Nats were in contention for the first time in there history that year, so the timing was perfect
