Niese to DL when he's not injured to make sure he's not available for all star game because if he's selected they would have to pay the All star bonus OR they want to slow his innings down because if he hits a certain number he gets a bonus....sad but these are the first thoughts I have when it comes to this franchise.

I think everyone out there realize that this is a make-or-break week for the Met season. Team MUST finish over .500 or commence selling. Our two biggest trade chips (Niese and Colon) have been either hurt or ineffective. Niese has always been a bulldog but he's beginning to look somewhat brittle. Colon is what he is.A reliable fifth-starter for a team still in the hunt. Bring up Thor, bring up Montero. Admit defeat with CY. And if you need a roster spot it may be time to say goodbye to Bobby Abreu, who CAN still hit but CANNOT buy a hit off the bench.

I feel like we're gonna trade Murphy and have Flores play second.

Or Terry can pull a fast one and just start EY there...

Flores last 10 games in AAA

Avg.419

Runs 12

Hits 18

HR 6

RBI 18

What else does this kid have to do. He needs to be in the Mets playing EVERYDAY. He has nothing else to prove in AAA.

Niese has a history of injuries and being fragile. His velocity is down to the 80's and his shoulder is sore. I don't get the yammering about TC pulling this guy out of a game when extreme caution is needed for a key starter.

According to MLB rules, every team must have a representative on the All-Star roster.  If not for that rule, the National League All-Star team would pretty much be all Mets!

Here's why:

Eric Young Jr - Several time National League Stolen Base Leader!

Juan Lagares - Premier National League outfielder!

Daniel Murphy - Batting over .300...again!

David Wright - Mets Captain and Premier player!

Curtis Granderson - Belted 43 Homers in 2012!

Lucas Duda - Capable of hitting 30+HRs!

Ruben Tejada - Premier National League shortstop!

Travis d'Arnaud - One of NL's best defensive catchers!

And there are your All-Star Mets!

Its official......Mets are selling players !

This is the Mets season, right here, right now!  A sweep against the Braves puts us a mere 6 games back!

We can do this!

These next seven games are essential for the Mets if they want to try and compete after the all star break.  I'm not saying they have a shot at doing so but they are still only 10 games out and they are playing 4 against the Braves and 3 vs the Marlins.  We'll see but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I feel like last week we were only 5 games out. Am I correct?

Now at minimum go take 3 of 4 from Atlanta and then at least 2 out of 3 against Miami. Not that I think they will but you have to start somewhere.

Niese said it's not an injury. But if Collins and Alderson said that it is then it is. So now we have the Mets putting a pitcher that's said he is feeling good on the DL. Seems a little funny why this is happening. Could it be that in Niese contract is got words that say if Niese passes certain amount of Innings he gets extra money. Just saying. These are the Mets.

Posted this earlier on Mets Blog

Kirk Nieuwenhuis better go 5 for 5 or General Alderson and his lap dog T Collins will bench him for another week. General Alderson knows its better to get players like Abreu playing time then to try and develop young talent. Fred Wilponzee needs to show everyone he really cares about winning. Keep the 22 year old Flores in the minors, why give this kid a real chance in the majors. General Alderson can tell based on Flores limited At bats that he will never be a quality player. General Alderson is the best GM in the history of the game, Thank you Fred Wilponzee!!

@Tormented Mets Fan I fear you are right--on both accounts. Murph has been our most consistent hitter. Not sure what you could get for him on the open market. Would love to see Wilmer get an EXTENDED opportunity to win a spot.

@Mont5  He still has the same problem he has always had - no position.

@hankypanky In a record setting season for pitchers and major surgeries I'm sure every team is going to be overly cautious, rightfully so, when it comes to pitchers and very sensitive.

People on here screamed when Gee was pulled after 81 pitches on May 10 and said later he felt fine.

@Lets Go Mets! In retrospect this is actually one of the funniest things I have read in a while.

"Several time SB leader"? Pretty sure was only once

Murphy isn't hitting .300

But my favorite is "Premier NL SS". I'm pretty sure even the Tejada lovers here (Steven M) wouldn't even say that!

@Andrew Fraraccio They are much worse simply because they are old and burdened with big money owed for old declining players. The money they owe Howard, Ruiz, Lee, Papelbon, Hamels, Burnett etc. is just plain scary.

Kevin VanTassell

All of Niese's contract is guaranteed, and the Mets aren't taking any money away from him. Have we forgotten he had a partial roto cuff tear last year that fared up again this spring? He has shoulder issues that will need extra rest and down time every so often to keep him away from surgery, which is far from a sure fix. (Ask Santana),

vandelay
vandelay

Niese did acknowledge his arm has been tired and that now (when he can sit for 2 weeks but only actually miss one start) is a good time to rest it. I don't think there is anything fishy going on given that ASB timing and his velocity being down. Smart move to rest him. If there was some money/contract thing the players union would be all over it

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@Mont5 Hate to say that as cynical as I have become with this team, my first thoughts were the same, that it was either an innings issue or even an ASG bonus or something contract/money related.

@Mont5  He's not even playing SS in AAA.  You would think if they planned to play him there in the majors he would be.

Mont5

Not looking for a gold glover. Looking for a bat. One that could hit .300 with 20 HRs

Mont5
Mont5

That's the Mets problem. They sign him as a SS then they move him to 3rd then 2nd then 1B. Just let him play in one position his bat will help us more than his defense.

Shawn M. Milburn
Shawn M. Milburn

For the same reason they missed the playoffs 2 years in a row with real All Stars- Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Floyd, Alou, Green, Delgado, Valentin, LoDuca, Pedro, Glavine, Santana, Wagner, El Duque, and Castillo were all All-Stars at one point.....this organization is terrible

Chad Michael
Chad Michael

@brian2740 @Chad Michael I'm not in fantasy land, I'm simply stating a point that these next seven games are pretty much the Mets season.  If they do well They could pull within 6 or 7 games if they do poorly then they are most certainly out of contention.

Even if they pull within 6 or 7 games I'm not holding my breath but that could have a big impact on whether Sandy becomes a seller or buyer.

Mont5
Mont5

Exactly which is why is the Mets that are ruining this kid. First few games he played SS had no errors and hit. Then they moved him to 3B had no errors and hit then they move him to 2nd had no errors and hit. C'mon now what else do they want from this kid

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@brian2740 @Tarheel11 @hankypanky Good question. I think young power guys like Wheeler have to learn to pitch and be more efficient with their pitch counts. I think these young power arms are used to getting by with power stuff coming up and then are more inclined to try to go after guys for strike outs as opposed to inducing ground balls, etc. I always think back to John Maine and the insane amount of foul balls he would give up which always jacked up his pitch counts.

But you're right about de Grom. Being converted into a pitcher at a late stage hopefully he won't be as susceptible to an arm injury

jamets
jamets

@Mont5  I have no idea.  It's pretty obvious they don't think he can play SS.  My question is, why have they wasted this season having him play SS when he could be learning how to play 3B or 2B - positions he at least has a chance to play in the majors.  There are some in the organization who think he doesn't even have enough range and quickness to play 2B, let alone SS.  But if that's the case, they should have just left him at 3B until a trade comes along.

Zach Goeringer
Zach Goeringer

@Mont5 As much as I'd hate to lose him Murphy may be traded at the deadline. If Flores is up here now he rides the bench, which is idiotic but a fact of life. If Murphy moves we would need Flores to offensively pick up the pieces a bit and thats why i think they have moved him from SS as of late.

jamets
jamets

@Zach Goeringer @Mont5  They're not trading Murphy this year.  Maybe during the offseason, or at next year's deadline, but not this year.
