Lost in the giddiness of yesterday's win is the fact the Mets once again didn't score over 3 runs.  9 straight games.  That they're only 4-5 in those games is remarkable.  That Sandy continues to try and band aid the offense (with call ups and "reclamation projects" is insanity.

deGrom and Wheeler are both pitching like Aces, throw in Harvey and Snydergaard and you have 4 potential #1's, Matz could be better then all of them and is closer to big league club then you think, not a stretch to give him a spring training invite and have all 5 pitching together in 2015, would not trade any of the 5, Colon, Niese, Gee, Montero and Hefner would be my trade chips

Conforto has hit safely in every game he has played and hitting .425, this kid was considered the best hitter in college baseball, he is already 21 and should be fast tracked, not a HS kid like Nimmo and Smith who you take your time with, Conforto should skip A and go right to StLucie for 1/2 season and if he is hitting off to AA and Sept call up in 15 if he hits at AA, with a 16 spring training invite with a chance to make the club

Toronto needs pitching and it would be alot easier to get Bautista then Stanton, Gee or Niese and Montero plus another prospect could get it done, would fit in well in the middle of the lineup

5-5 road trip is NOT what the Doctor ordered, but, it is typical of the METS. Since the hot steak before the ASB did NOT continue on the road, let's hope, the winning at home does?

The Mets have to trade some of this surplus into a middle of the order bat. Yes you can never have enough pitching but do we really need 10 starters next year?

They should package 2 pitchers from that list to make a package for a big bat. (Wheeler, DeGrom, Thor) would have the most value b/c of youth and potential. Hopefully Sandy uses this to his advantage. It's time for Sandy to finally make a big move!!

"Trade for Tulo/Don't Trade for Tulo...No chance we get Stanton....Don't give up the farm...we won't get Cargo..."

Fine, but what will we do to bolster this offense? We need to do something or this team will always hover around the sub.-500 mark, even Sandy can see that.

Can we stop the stupidity of trade talk for Tulo?

1. He wants to be a Yankee. He was at the Yankee game YESTERDAY. What more proof do you need.

2. Sandy is not trading prized pitching prospects he CONTROLS over the next 6 years for an oft-injured 31 year old (next year).

3. Sandy is not adding $129MM to the payroll.

4, Makes no logical sense-Mets would bring in a prospect at SS at a LOW cost before they would make that kind of risky investment.

Is this a playoff-bound lineup?  Could be your 2015 Mets, this is Ass Kicking in my opinion, do it Sandy , do it!!!!

1 - E Young Jr (2B)                     SP - Harvey

2 - Tulo (SS)                                SP -  Wheeler

3 - D Wright (3B)                         SP - deGrom

4 - CarGo (OF)                            SP - Gee

5 - Duda (1B)                              SP - Niese

6 - Granderson (OF)                  RP - Parnell, Familia, Mejia (plus others)

7 - Lagares (OF)

8 - d'Arnaud (C)

Everyone has to give up their dreams on stanton Tulo,  There is a 0% chance this happens during the seaosn and a very slim chance it happens in the offseason

Snydergaard, had another strong outing,Harvey, Wheeler, deGrom, Snydergaard and Matz should be your starting 5 with a bunch of young studs in the pen, this gives us Colon, Gee, Niese, Montero and Murphy as valuable trade options, Herrera should get a Sept call-up and be starting 2B in 2015, kids a stud and will produce at any level you throw in at, Stanton/Tulo would both fit perfectly and the Mets have got the assets to get either one

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

Are we or are we not getting Tulo and/or Cargo?  Would you be willing to part with this to get both of them:

Montero, Syndergaard, Murphy and another kid prospect?

I would be!

@C.K. Dexter Haven  Exactly.  We surely can not expect to shutout a team for a win every night.

Scoring 2-3 runs a game does not translate into a winning team.

@semperfi  Sadly, I think we are going to have to get rid of at least one of the "big five" you listed, in addition to one of the other arms, to get the bat(s) we'll need at SS/LF.  You have to give quality to get quality, and Colon/Niese/Gee/etc. alone probably aren't going to get it done.

Kevin VanTassell
Kevin VanTassell

I do believe the Mets will make a move for a big bat, but that type a trade will probably be in the off season, seems like Winter Meetings type trade.

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@Father Dooley  Stop panicking. You don't trade the farm for 30 year old players. We have to live with this offense this year, and sign a FA and/or make a trade from a position of strength when the opportunity arises, not when teams know we are desperate. At least Sandy knows this.

Kevin VanTassell
Kevin VanTassell

Mets will trade Murphy, if he was a piece they want to climb around they would have offered him an extension. I haven't heard any talk about signing an extension, but plenty about trading him. I think they can put Flores there, and hope Herrera continues to impress.

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@sjm25  Because Murphy's defense is slightly better than awful and we have a stud at AA. He will be getting $12M/yr. an his defense is not worth it. I admit we need him now but that's because we are offensively deficient. Once we get more development from our younger players, he becomes a handicap at 2B. Don't tell me his play 2B is adequate, because it is not.

Kevin VanTassell
Kevin VanTassell

It's no secret that Tulowitzki is a huge Jeter fan, but it doesn't mean he'll get to replace him. I agree that chances of the Mets getting him is slim, not think the Yankees is even less. I look for a team like Red Sox or Dodgers making a run at him next off season.

mets74
mets74

@cleonsvan Watch out for the Red Sox and Tulo. I believe Boston has much better prospects to offer than the Yankees. Even though Boston isn't doing too well this year, if the Yankees offer something, Boston will be right behind.

Kevin VanTassell
Kevin VanTassell

Would only take Gonzalez in a trade with Tulowitzki if it reduced the price for Tulowitzki.

True on Stanton, he won't be traded this offseason. Tulo could be traded though.

@Father Dooley  that may get cargo, but you would need to substitute herera for murphy and the kid prospect is probably plawecki...no thanks for a very talented OFer who may only have warning track power in citifield

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@Father Dooley But why would Colorado take Murphy? If they are trading away those guys they are rebuilding. So if you are rebuilding why take on Murphy and his money? It's not like he's 23.

Kevin VanTassell

To get a team changing bat, you have to give up one of young pitchers.

Father Dooley

@cleonsvan @Father Dooley I would love for this team to make a playoff chase this year, being 7 games back, this team is a hot streak away from contending for that second wildcard, can't this happen now?

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@sjm25 He was at the game because he was with family and wanted to see Jeter play one last time....

And I'm the ignorant one? Seriously. That was a shot to the bow at the Rockies.

Wheeler, Thor, Matz, Nimmo Pawlecki, Montero, Herrera & Leathersich for Tulo & Cargo.

Deal???

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@sjm25 @semperfi  He said a September call up, didn't say give him the position. The kid is fast tracking and many players skip AAA.

semperfi
semperfi

@sjm25 @semperfi FYI, Murphy went from AA to big league club and did not hit as well as this kid is right now, many top prospects in AA have had Sept call ups and started the following season with big league club, Flores and Reynolds could also handle the spot if Murphy were traded, you dont want Murphy at 8-12 mill as your long term 2B, he will never be a good defender and does not have the power to play 1B or 3B, 10 mill saved on Murphy goes along way for a middle of the order bat

@Father Dooley @cleonsvan You're kidding, right?  With the exception of the Marlins, the Mets aren't better than any of the teams ahead of them in the WC standings.

hankypanky

@Father Dooley

Trade away the future so we can enjoy a"hot streak"?

And to what end? Climbing over the bodies of teams ahead of the Mets is difficult enough .

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@Father Dooley  No. That is the kind of desperation I'm talking about. Enjoy the games with what we have.

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@sjm25  His defense is adequate.... better than Flores at SS thats for sure.

Think about that. First of all, not sure why you brought Flores into this conversation. But since you did, Flores has natural soft hands and is at least good enough to fill in at SS. Murphy would embarrass himself at SS. So you really can't compare the two when you speak of defensive prowess. Flores is heads and shoulders over Murphy as a defensive player. Other than failing to cover a bag, I've yet to see Flores make a bone headed play at SS.

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@sjm25  How many prospects have done what Herrera has done only to fall apart when he gets to the big stage?" If you take that attitude, why have a farm system at all? You can't run a team thinking like that. Get over the Alex Escobar syndrome. Murphy's offense makes up for his defense RIGHT NOW only because the Mets are desperate for hitting. So under the way this team is constructed, I agree his offense is critical. Herrera is fast-tracking and he has all the tools. All the reports coming out is that he is a stud. Murphy will be making too much money for his defense and bone-headed plays. Keep him one more year and then move him. 2B is a defensive position. Use the money elsewhere.

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

@tullydew I would do that in a second! Do it Sandy, do it!!!!

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@Father Dooley @Tarheel11 I hear ya. And maybe they would. I just wonder if they would do that because then they'd have to extend Murphy or lose him after only one year. And I would think if they are rebuilding they would want guys younger and under team control longer and cheaper. But I'm sure Murphy would love to play in Coors!

Jim Yager
Jim Yager

@cleonsvan: How long have we been forced to "enjoy the games with what we have"? The problem is players age, and, every year that we "enjoy what we have" the players lose value and skill. We have a small window to operate in before it closes. How long will this pitching dream last, 2 or 3 years, perhaps 4, if we don't add some more pieces before that time, we will be sitting back to "enjoy the games with what we have" and miss the playoffs again :}

Jimmy McNulty
Jimmy McNulty

You guys are literally insane. That's way too much to give up for anybody

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@Jim Yager  We don't have a small window. We are on the verge of having a dominant staff that took years to develop. You don't want to flush that away by trading these chips for one middle aged oft-injured hitter that might not get us there anyway. We have to let the chips fall the rest of the year. I see no other recourse. Get your offense in the off season. Teams will not just give their players away in the middle of a pennant race. They use this time of the year to cannibalize farm systems.

Jimmy McNulty
Jimmy McNulty

Then we're back in the same position we were after 2008. Washed up stars with no farm system. No thanks. I'd take Tulo but I'm not trading the entire future for him
