Matt Harvey threw from a mound on Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last October. Harvey is not ruling out a return late this season, but Sandy Alderson maintains that a 2014 return for Harvey is highly unlikely >> Read more at MetsBlog

Triple-A Las Vegas RHP Noah Syndergaard has had terrific outings three of his last four times on the mound, but there isn’t yet a timetable for his Mets debut.

The Mets are thinking of promoting OF Matt den Dekker from Triple-A. If den Dekker is called up, it would likely be at the expense of either Bobby Abreu or Chris Young.

Jacob deGrom has an innings limit of roughly 180 this season, but the Mets may extend him a bit further if they find themselves in contention.

So here we sit, again, on the edge of falling out of the WC chase. We watched Sandy do what he does best, NOTHING! The Yankees, made a few moves and they are deep in a WC chase, go figure? The more things change the more they stay the same.

Watch folks, the mets will tease you by signing Jed lowrie as a free agent to play SS who is awful and who Alderson wanted to trade for this past off season, then he will either sign either Alex Rios or Michael Cuddyer (one of David Wright's best friends in all of baseball) to play the OF with Lageres and Granderson, only problem is Cuddyer won't have Colorado's thin air to pad his stats...and the mets will say....SEE We spent money, gave up no top prospects, now come watch our team!

you gotta believe!

Don't fall for it mets fans!!!

Nice to see a Tejada discussion without the vitriol and distortions that it usually brings onto this blog.

Tejada is nothing more than a backup. Once and for all  put Flores at SS and leave him there. How bad can he be? At least we can see if he will hit on a daily basis. We already know what Tejada "cant do". Free Flores and for that matter--Free Wally PLEASE! I as well and thousands of others spent a lot of hard earned money yesterday to see a Mets game and see what amounts to the scrub team. They get spanked by a good pitcher and don't even put up a fight. SMH Thanks for nothing Collins!

During yesterdays blowout a discussion on C Young happened. A couple of people were saying that the reason they continue to play him is some promise made by Alderson about giving him a certain number of at bats. It was a pretty long exchange as the game was such a waste. I was saying that I found it hard to believe that a promise made in the offseason would have to be held to even though Youngs production was so bad. The other commenters were saying that it had to do with Youngs agents wanting Sandy to hold to the promise. I still found it hard to believe because everybody in base ball knows that if you don't produce you don't play, even agents. I was just over on that article and found the whole exchange deleted,. Strange.

Too bad Wright isn't best friends with Stanton.

Why cy batting 6th and not 8th

@Bob Burket He is a better fielder on identical pitcher in the dirt throws Tejada panics while Flores scoops it also Flores has more range and a superior arm. The morons who think Tejada has more range are the same ones that play him to bunt because of his speed . His size and lack of skill lead others to believe he must be a speedy infielder. Why else would he play?

matmil

@Bob Burket I'm with you on that Bob. I've had enough of Tejada too. H e has no baseball instincts and is still trying to hit homeruns. If he learned to choke up and shortened his swing he might make a decent 2 hitter but he refuses to try.

Can't bench wright for any period of time no matter what unless he goes on DL,and moving players around that much wouldn't make sense unless you kept them there.

In any case, the move would be to put flores at third reynolds at SS if that's the lineup you want

@matmil Hard to believe that SA would give him an ironclad promise of a minimum number of ABs without an escape hatch if he stinks up the joint, which he's been doing for several months.  Also, the minimum AB quota didn't seem to be an issue when Collins was benching him against right handed pitching earlier in the year.  I think it's more likely a combination of squeezing every drop out of a substantial sunk cost combined with a lack of confidence in their younger outfielders.

krane7

If they are playing him because of I promise why bat him 5th.

@matmil matmil I think I started that whole thing! Sorry about that!

I do think it's a tricky situation. On one hand you are right, if you don't produce you should sit. I get that completely but I also get the side of it where Sandy doesn't want to piss off a major agent. But at the end of the day, it's Sandy's fault in the first place for making that promise. And that was my initial point is I hope he learned his lesson.

I think 8 years of non playoff appearences is enough. I think 1 title in 28 years is enough. Don't talk to mets fans about hope and patience

@krane7 I think CY/Reuben are very interchangeably bad offensively and lets face it Lagares has not been much better with his 600 OPS for July, I think the problem is that those guys all should be 8th hitters and we have 3 of them followed by the worst hitting pitchers in baseball in our lineup.

hankypanky

Of course, I can add fuel to the fire by stating that Tejada is one of the best players on the club in working the long count, but I won't :)

Tarheel11

@matmil @Bob Burket I am so frustrated watching Tejada every day. I don't think Flores is the answer, never have. But Tejada has proven he isn't the answer.

Would it kill this team to throw Flores out there for a month straight? At worst he proves he's a utility infielder. Guess what, so is Tejada!

I don't care if they throw the kid Reynolds out there. Scouts say at best he's a utility infielder. Guess what so is Tejada!

I don't care if Bob Burket goes out there. Can he really be worse than Tejada?

@krane7 Kranepool was my favorite player when I was a kid.

matmil

@Tarheel11 @matmil Well Tarheel from what I just saw it looks like you were right. And it looks like people are a little ashamed of it coming out. And they should be because if agents can begin to exert that kind of effect on a team then baseball has a serious problem. And if Chris Young is any kind of man then he should tell his agents to butt out.

Mexpert

@hankypanky The idea that long counts are a goal is similar to taking pitches to raise the pitch count. If you wanna knock out a pitcher string hits together and bat around. It works.

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@matmil @Tarheel11 Agreed. But it's one thing for Sandy to make the promise. But why did he even come out publicly and admit it before the season started? What would he hope to gain by admitting that? Why say anything about it all. Just say hey CY is going to be in the mix. Why set himself up for exactly the backlash he has now? This team confuses me

hankypanky
hankypanky

Point taken. Since Tejada is not a hitter, he's trying the next best thing, which is working the count.

blueorange

@tarhell11 @matmil. I took the promise of AB to be a opportunity to play, however, he has had the opportunity and just does not produce. I just don't see how SA makes his decision based on fear of the agent. I'd buy the theory that he doesn't want to admit it was a mistake to sign him before the agent theory. Btw, I just think it was a gamble hoping it would be like the Byrd signing and it has turned out to be a flop. It happens every year for a bunch of teams, I didn't like the signing, but I'm not going to tear into SA for signing him. Hopefully, he makes up for this off season.

matmil
matmil

@Tarheel11 @matmil Yeah confusion reigns. I just feel that this is a crucial time for this team and they should be playing their best players They have a young team and a little experience in meaningful games would go a long way. They owe it to the players they owe it to the fans to put out their best product. If agents are more important then the players or the fans then try selling them your tickets.

matmil
matmil

@blueorange Yeah I don't blame him for the signing , you have to try and you never know. But at this point the evidence is clear this guy is done so let's admit it and move on. You don't have to cut him but you don't have to play him everyday either.

mets74
mets74

Part of the problem on these boards, especially earlier in the season, were people claiming that CY was promised 400 ab's, 500 ab's or whatever. This was not the case. A specific # of AB's was never mentioned by SA, only that he would get AB's/playing time. It's one of those things that was blown completely out of context.

mets74
mets74

@matmil @mets74 I have no idea. Maybe they don't want 7 mil going to waste. That's something that someone needs to ask TC or SA, but nobody has for some reason.

matmil
matmil

@mets74 @matmil Then that would come from the Wilpons and that is certainly a possibility. I would just like a clear answer from somebody maybe Cerrone.

mets74
mets74

@Tarheel11 @mets74 @matmil Are you just listing CY posts? I was trying to remember any posts that could have answered the question of why he was still getting playing time, the one in May ALMOST came close.

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@mets74 @Tarheel11 @matmil One of the posts has CY admitting Alderson promised him a certain amount of AB's. The other one states how Alderson admitted promising CY a certain number of at bats

There are countless posts about it. Harper and Sherman reported about it after the signing. Rightfully they ripped SA for it.

mets74
mets74

@Tarheel11 @mets74 @matmil Right, but there's not a specific # of AB's mentioned. I'm sure that the agent asked if he would get ab's/playing time and SA told him "yes", otherwise it would have been foolish to sign the contract. But then again, it was for 7+ mil....

mets74
mets74

@matmil @Tarheel11 @mets74 Whoever the reporter was that asked about Tejada last week needs to ask about CY.
