The Mets will know by midday Monday whether or not Bartolo Colon has been claimed off waivers.

The level swing to right field is gone. He has one mean upper cut.

As payback to MLB for loans, the Mets have been asked to scout and evaluate players so other teams can sign them.

If Colon is claimed by another team, why wouldn't the Mets just let him go and dump the salary?

Two puzzles for this blog to consider:

1. Why scout Cuban players when other clubs clearly Have a big economic advantage over the Mets.

2. Why risk injury to deGrom's arm by not keeping him to a strict pitch count and shutting him down in light of the fact that the club isn't going anywhere.

Just asking.

@Bob Burket They could, but then people will whine about how we got nothing back.

@hankypanky

1) Because we missed out on Abreu. If we sign a Cuban player, ANY Cuban player, then TC can be fired.

2) Because he's a better hitter than Tejada. Then TC can be fired.

I will promise to reserve my whining until next year, when we find out if they actually use the money "saved" on an important piece.
