If we score 4+ runs tonight, I predict we win.  If not, I guarantee we lose.  #numbersdon'tlie

I  HOPE AND PRAY THAT OUR POPULAR OUTFIELDER LEGARES START TO HIT AND OUR  GLORIOUS CATCHER START TO BURN UP THE BASEBALL NOW, SO THE METS CAN START HITTING AND FOR GODS SAKE WINNING. IF SO WITH GRANDERSON, MURPHY, WRIGHT DUDA AND TEJADA TAKING CARE OF THE DEFENSE AND EY WITH HIS SPEED AND GREAT PITCHING, WELL.... WHO KNOWS WE MIGHT WIN IT,..... ALL THE WAY!!!!

Is this team going in the Wright direction?  Our lineup is pathetic.

Remember that "wins or faces" post a couple of days ago?  That was adorable.

I kind of like the name calling on this blog... I find it very entertaining can't take it too seriously

@stork1973 the lineup has been looking good as of late. Even last night, the mets actually had outhit the pirates, but they left a small army on the basepaths, curtis granderson is looking very much worth the deal he signed this offseason, and david wright seems to be finding his groove as well. With the return of Lagares, I think the offense will start to pan out more.

Flores played 2B last night. This is all about trading Murphy. This will all get straightened out after the trade deadline. They may have wanted to keep Kirk up because there is a team showing interest in him as well(Boston?).

@Brian McCarthy He's an average 1st baseman on a team that desperately needs more than average at that position.

@Brian McCarthy  I think we all thought of Wheeler as another Harvey. Not fair to him. Wheeler has the stuff. It's just taking him longer. We really don't know what we have in Thor yet.

@Brian McCarthy although it's tempting, after matt harvey and dillon gee, and bobby parnell went down, it's a testament that you really can't have too many quality starting pitchers, those guys are getting injured all the time, mets need all the depth they can get. I'm not worried about Zach Wheeler at all, he really is the legitimate deal. I think he will need time to harness his stuff, think Nolan Ryan and how wild he was his first couple seasons with the mets, before he was able to harness is stuff elsewhere

@mets2891 obviously we'd rather support winners than guys that have been on the team for a long time, but can't seem to win

@Ed Yano if the mets trade murphy, it had better be for a matt harvey, clayton kershaw type pitching prospect, or two. Murphy is a great hitter at a position not known for too much power. He has excellent gap power, and gets a ton of doubles. The Mets have plenty of depth at 2B with Flores and even Dilson Herrera, so I can see them moving Murphy

@Brian McCarthy yeah, you just mentioned Reynolds, and I saw his statistics in Binghamton, he is the highest rated true shortstop that the mets have in their system right now, with his .430 OBP if he can keep it up in the PCL he may get called up when rosters expand in september, he seems legit with the bat. I haven't heard too much about him though

Brian McCarthy

Not wrong, just saying he is putting up numbers better then David, and Grandy in less games.Much cheaper too.Just a nice surprise.

Confidence is the big issue with Lucas. He will be ok.

I'm wondering if Thor is hurt.Remember he had MRI done in NY two weeks ago.And we all know how accurate are medical staff is.Sad to say but don't be surprised if he goes down. We've seen it all before.Plus would explain why he is pitching so poorly.Hope not.

Speaking of who gets "injured all the time", you left out Niese, who tops the list. Very fragile. Agreed on Wheeler.

I don't get the negativity on this blog about him. He's the real deal.

wilpondscm

@January 12th @Brian McCarthy how are you qualified to say he is the "legitamate deal"? he looks like a typical hyped up young kid with good stuff but inability to figure out how to be a good pitcher with consistency. until he proves otherwise he is hardly legitimate. results matter, not hype, not stuff. pelfrey, izzy, and pulsipher all over again.

Brian McCarthy
Brian McCarthy

I worry about Zach because he seems to have the same mental toughness as Mike Pelphrey did.I hope not but seems to check out of games.

@January 12th @mets2891 I just love the point they're trying to get across that just because you have stars doesn't make you a contender.  Well, the Mets are clearly proving that having AAAA players doesn't make you a contender either.

@Steven Matregrano yeah, Syndergaard is going to learn how to pitch in that bandbox league, I'm not worried about wheeler too much either, I think he will pan out, and Matt Harvey will come back stronger. I also, feel that Jon Niese has finally turned the page, and if Dillon Gee, can pick up where he left off, the Mets have one of the deepest rotations in the division

@January 12th @wilpondscm they were supposed to be the big three SP the mets build this franchise around.

Murphy is not good enough to bring back a Kershaw type pitching prospect. He is overrated by Mets fans because he is so much better than most of what the fans have to watch, but he is not a great hitter. He is pretty good but clearly not great.I think he will be dealt for prospect to a contender,it will be prospects because that team will not be looking to move ML talent, they are looking to win now.I also thing the prospects the Mets get back will replace the prospects we deal foe a SS.Net result Murphy for a SS.

@January 12th @Brian McCarthy That's because the scouts don't think he'll amount to much, at best a utility  infielder. I'd never even heard his name before the last couple of months but I'll take their word since they get paid to do this.

Brian McCarthy
Brian McCarthy

I haven't either, just always see his name in box score.Him or Tovar

January 12th
January 12th

@wilpondscm,I base my judgement on the advanced scouting reports that had wheeler ranked top 10 as a pitching prospect during his minor league days, and I look at his advanced strikeout to innings pitched ratio, it's dominant stuff that he has, and he's been pitching to more strikeouts than innings pitched since he was in the giants system all the way up to the major leagues. Mike Pelfrey, Jason Isringhausen, and Bill Pulispher, never even had such strikeout success in the minors

tullydew
tullydew

Zach looks like a AJ Burnett clone. Which isn't all the bad. He will always leave you wanting more from him b/c of his stuff. But in the end he probably will be a #3 SP.

January 12th
January 12th

@wilpondscm well sort of, I think that Dillon Gee, and Jonathon Niese are the old gaurd, and Matt harvey will be dominant when he gets back, the mets actually have a nice pitching staff all things considered, Noah Syndergaard can fill in the 5th starters spot, and Dice-K can be returned to the bullpen. Jon Niese, and Dillon Gee are the real horses in the rotation, Zack Wheeler is a more than capable 4th starter, and Bartolo Colon although not a part of the long term plans, has been really, really good as of late

hankypanky
hankypanky

Wheeler, for starters. Unbelievably dumb.
