Who said the Mets wouldn't be playing meaningful games this time of year. THE BATTLE FOR BASEMENT BEGINS TONIGHT !

Sandy needs to make a bold move to excite the fan base. What about Colon for Kemp? LA unloads an unhappy player who they owe a lot of money and open up an everyday spot for Pederson. Colon gives them the extra SP they need to replace Beckett. We get a player still in his prime and fill a major need for the middle of our batting order. We can also throw them a prospect to get it done.

At least the comparisons of Flores to Miguel Cabrera have gone away.

Let the Daniel Murphy watch begin.

Can you imagine if the Mets actually lost 90 games this season? That would be hilarious...they need to win 12 more games to match their win total from last season...

They have 28 games left this season. They would have to go 10 and 18 for a 90 loss season. Think it is possible? I think that would be media nightmare for them ager the 90 win comment

It will be nice to see someone who is actually a 2B play 2B.

and so ladies and gents, what we've waited for all year is on. The battle for last place begins tonight. I'm so excited i could hardly sleep. How many Phillies will humiliate Sandberg, how many errors will Tejada make. How many double plays will Wright hit into, how many runs can Phillys bullpen give up in one series. All these questions await and I'm thrilled.

Making your MLB debut as a 20 year old tends to bode well.

We are going to end up in last place this year.  Sandy did a horrible job constructing this team

A good showing by Herrera and Murph's days as a Met are numbered.

Well I guess the Wilmur Flores experiment is over!

Maybe that's what SA really meant, we just misquoted him.

@BerryBeltran I've thought about this and really hope it would happen.  Sure, I will receive backlash for saying that.  I will be told I am not a "true fan," however I would say the fans with more passion would actually hope for this as it may force change.  If they were near or at .500 at the end of this year, they would somehow spin that into a successful season and the same people who would ridicule me would eat that up and continue to accept mediocrity.

Hopefully he plays well enough so we can trade Murph this offseason.

@matmil It is wild how Sandberg has alienated that whole team

@matmil I checked with my baseball insider and this is the actual quote during that meeting:

"I think that we can and should get to 90 this year".

Blame the NY media for twisting his word's around. Shame. SHAME!

@John Paul Cullinane I agree 100%…can't stand the weenies on this site who claim you're not a real Met fan if you wish them to not do well. The only real fans are those who want change as quickly as possible and the only way to get there is if the club continues to underperform or embarrass itself. If the Wilpon's don't care to make the team better, our only hope is for MLB to get involved.

@tullydew I just hope Sandy is realistic with his asking price. Murphy is a very flawed player and not really a 2B. He can't be asking for a top 15 prospect in the league for Murphy, that's just laughable.

@Tarheel11 @Not4Nutten  He usually doesn't jump prospects like this. I wonder if Sandy's already made up his mind to move Murphy in the off season. A good showing by Herrera makes it easier to sell a trade to the fans.

@mets74 @matmil If we are not going to the playoffs - then get me as high of draft pick as i can in next years draft, also protect it in the event we decide to spend $$$ on a free agent

Not necessarily. Hererra played his way onto the team. If Dilson hits .230 Murph stays. If he hits .280, Murph goes.

@Pete Brilvitch @Tarheel11 @Not4Nutten Yep. I just never thought he would make this kind of move right now. What does it say to Flores? What does it say to Reynolds? I could have seen this move with Reynolds. But you're absolutely right what does it mean for Murphy? Wow

@mingo Murphy should really go regardless. He's not the answer at 2B.
