What’s on Tap: Dice-K & Mets host Tigers at 1 pm

Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Mets host the Tigers at Tradition Field on Tuesday at 1:10 pm ET, live on SNY and WOR 710 AM.

Wilmer Flores is scheduled to make his third start at shortstop this spring.

There are less than two weeks until Opening Day.

The Mets are off Wednesday, after which Terry Collins said he plans to start playing his expected starting lineup, including David Wright and Curtis Granderson.

No game on WOR710. Lots of Obamacare rants, though.

I'm okay with Dice-K or Lannan as fifth starter as a placeholder for Thor but if Niese starts hurts, one of the younger arms should round out the rotation.  There was a reference to talk of Montero starting in the bullpen. If they are going to have him here, he should be given a few starts. When Niese comes back, send him back down. If you don't want him here at all, that's one thing. Raising the idea of him in the bullpen is one of those "oh shut up" comments.

Flores is gunna take ss from tejada, but tejada will still make the club sending sartelli to the minors, I don't mind tejada as a serviceable back up to 2b and ss

Tough day for flores... it never helps the fielder's when the pitcher takes over a minute to throw the ball. Fielder's get bored. Sit on heels and make poor plays. Of course this will be the game Terry uses to evaluate flores then we'll go back to tejada. "He's are guy."

hopefully Flores show why he should command ss for years to come for the mets

I long for the days of spring 2006 when the Mets got Paul Lo Duca  and Carlos Delgado and were in position at least to win the NL East. Are we ever going to get back to that?

Flores is gonna go 2-4 with a diner today, and play a decent SS thus solidifying the position for years to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right?

How in the world does a competitive organization go in to the season with no answer at SS or 1B?

We have 2 first basemen who can't get on the field to even allow us to see who the lesser of two evils is, and our starting SS is an O'fer error machine. I'm not supporting this, I'm not wasting a Sunday at Citi Field, and I should't be expected to.

@Zac Tindall Dude, this is the Mets.  Flores will be in Vegas and whoever is more boring out of Tejada and Quintania will get the gig.

Flores will be fine he played decent SS at Las Vegas where the ball jumps off the bat His bat is needed in this lineup they will have to make him a starter

@Mo Pena He probably will and it will take them two years like it did with Murphy.

@Seamus Oatis

@Seamus Oatis ss is a much bigger concern and i'll tell you why...if davis fails at least they have a shot with duda...if tejada fails they have no other options

Another novice. Why don't you bother learning the rudiments before falling into the kids-vets morass?

@ac0814 Although, they still have no idea who is going to start at first.

Tejada is an offensive AND a defensive liability.

@Steven Matregrano  "Fatboy" did win 18 last year, was 10-9 the year before with a 3.43 ERA, then hadn't won double digit games since 2005. $20 Mill for a contract year performance? The Mets are a small market run team playing in the biggest market in the world. Marlins didn't let Super 2 influence their decision to call up Jose Fernandez last season, yet the Mets use that as an excuse, and trot out Dice K and or Lannon every 5th day. This team is at best an 80 win team. Collins will be gone by All Star break, even though I agree with you, it's not his fault.

Got no issue with this rotation, although Dice K worries me.

@Steven Matregrano The Marlins were stupid.  They wasted a year of control for what?  They were still 62-100 and playing in an empty park.  For a team that dumps their players before they have to pay them- it made no sense to have him pitching in the majors all year.

@Seamus Oatis niese's proness to injury concerns me more...you should view dice-k simply as a 3 month placeholder for one of the young arms
