Nick Markakis 1 (Baron)

What’s going on with the Orioles and Mets?

The Mets and Orioles have been in repeated contact this winter, according to multiple reports.

The Mets have reportedly asked Baltimore about SS J.J. Hardy (Rubin, Nov. 25), OF Nick Markakis (Francesa, Nov. 13) and top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy (Duquette on MLB Network Radio, Dec. 10).

Meanwhile, the Orioles have asked about Daniel Murphy (Sherman, Dec. 9), and they may have interest in Ike Davis (ShermanPumaMartino, Dec. 9).

In return for Hardy, team insiders have told me the Orioles want a top, young pitcher, such as Cardinals RHP Shelby Miller, which has scared several teams away — including the Cardinals — during November. Also, while Baltimore will listen to offers for Markakis, I’ve heard they’re more likely to trade him during the summer, when they hope he increases his value to a level it once was. Jim Duquette said the O’s quickly rejected swapping Bundy in a deal for Murphy, though he said the Mets asked about other players as well.

Prior to 2013, Markakis provided consistently above-average offense, with an excellent OBP and good power. This year, however, he was terrible at the plate, with an OPS of .685. His power, in particular, was much decreased and he hit more ground balls. He’s expected to bounce back from this rough performance, though he may not return to the .800+ OPS he managed earlier in his career.

I've always liked Markakis, but his numbers did fall off. He may be worn out. Except for 2012, when he must've been hurt, he's played in at least 160 games in 4 of the last 5 years. In 2012, when he played in 104 games, he hit .298. Maybe if he dropped 20 games, down to 140-145, he'd be fine. He does make some dough, $15 million next year, then $17.5. Nice lefty bat. With Grandy and Young, probably no longer a consideration.

Would loved to have seen Duquette's face when Alderson proposed Bundy for Murphy

The idea of having a starting rotation with Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Bundy, Mejia, and Montero gives me chills.

I think Murphy and a B level prospect, like a Jeff Walters, for Bundy and cash, would be an awesome deal for both sides. O's get a second baseman and the Mets free up room for either Flores or Young. Even though Bundy is coming off elbow surgery he would immediately sure up the rotation next year and for years to come. Doubt anything like this would happen but it would be a good deal for both sides

I am 100% on the Kemp wagon, but I also think Adam Jones would be incredible for us. Of course that means we would have to part with Lagares most likely sicne they are both top notch CF defenders. But it would be a definite upgrade offensively as Jones is proven and Lagares we are just hoping translates his winter ball game to the Mets.

Is a trade for Adam Jones possible? Murph/Ike, Niese/Gee, and a prospect?

Hardy & Bundy for Ike, Murph, and Monetro seems fair, maybe a little slanted towards to O's.  I'd like to get Weiters in there as well but would cost us D'Arnoaud.

I like Hardy and Markakis but lets face it, I wouldn't give up the kitchen sink for these guys. Markakis is coming off a bad year so his value is lower than normal. He doesn't give a ton of power with 23 being his best HR total ever hitting in a hitters park. But he does give you an almost .300 avg with a good OBP and a ton of doubles every year..

As for Hardy. Well he's a nice upgrade to Tejada but  I would not give up a Montero for him. Baltimore is out of their minds asking for Shelby Miller in a Hardy trade. Hardy has only played 150 games or more twice in his career. He does have good power but spent his entire career in Mill and Balt so how much power would he have in NY? But forget the power and just leave it at this. Hardy is an injury prone player with a career .259avg  and a .312 OBP. Those are not the type of numbers you move a top prospect like Montero for.

I have no issue with a deal that sends Muphy and Davis packing but not Montero. If we send a guy like Montero packing I want something better than Hardy in return

Shelby Miller for JJ Hardy? Dylan Bundy for Daniel Murphy? Ike for Braun straight up is 10000% more believable than either of those.

If we're asking about Bundy, I assume Alderson is going to waive the physical?

What's going on? A whole lot of NOTHING, Cerrone. That is what's going on.

Just having fun here: Three way with Tampa & LA:

Dodgers > Price, Murphy

Tampa > Seager, Pederson, Montero, Black

Mets > Kemp

If you're not hitting for power in Camden Yards I don't think you can expect much at Citi Field.

It's nice that Sandy is dreaming big and it never hurts to ask but let's be real, Bundy/Gausman are not happening for Murphy and Ike. Neither is JJ Hardy. Hardy is the better offensive valued player and better all around player from a more premium position.

They don't add up as trade partners

I'd be all in on J.J. Hardy. Davis & Montero to start.  But I want a window to extend him.

Hardy and a pitcher yes not Markakis

@nyijkm Adam Jones is not a top notch center fielder by any means defensively.  If we got him we would play him in right field and move Young over to center.

If we could swing that, i would take that in a heartbeat

@Michael W. Herbert

that would be a very good move, the mets have to give up montero we have lots of good pitching coming up.

and we can't go into the season with tejeda/Q  again, and plus getting bundy sounds good, even though he's

coming off surgery....

 I wouldn't do that.

Matt Kemp (who may or may not be great still) for Montero and Murphy. That doesn't really fill any holes still. What do we do then?

Listen, I'll take Bundy coming off surgery in a Heart beat.  I would do whatever I could to land Bundy b/c post surgery this kid is a #1.  he was the top prospect in all of baseball a year ago.  I don't care if he starts the year in AAA.  Again, my only issue with hardy is that he is a one year guy.  So if you want to send Ike & Montero to the O's for Hardy & Bundy - I'm all in!
