Jon Niese

What is going on with Jon Niese?

Jon Niese insisted he feels healthy, despite giving up six runs in six innings, including two home runs, in a loss to the Nationals late Wednesday night.

He is 0-for-4 with a 5.76 ERA since missing a start on the DL with shoulder soreness.

Niese said improper pitching mechanics caused the initial shoulder pain, so he has since made further adjustments.

However, he added, “Now, I just have to figure out how to locate my pitches.”

His release point is all over the place, which you can see here. The velocity on his fastball is fine, but he seemingly has very little command over what it’s doing, not to mention what is happening to his curve ball. This is serious a concern. He was cruising before the trip to the DL, which he did not seem happy about having to do, by the way. I assume he wanted to work on it in games, while the Mets preferred he rest, so not to cause any damage, figuring he could find himself during bullpen sessions. However, that plan doesn’t seem to be working very well. I hope he and Dan Warthen can get him back to feeling comfortable and confident, because right now he’s looking and sounding like a left-handed version of Mike Pelfrey.

At best Niese is a 14 game winner.. Which is VERY GOOD for a #4.. But theres no room in this rotation for him after this year and that is a fact.

He's a 4th starter in a good rotation.  Don't expect too much.

he's still injured and won't say anything, he thinks it makes him look bad or that they may take him out of the rotation now that all the young arms are coming up

I said for 2 years trade Neise, trouble and decline is coming. Everyone umped on me no, he is a young  pitcher and the only one that is a LHP. I will take a better RHP over a mediocre LHP any time. Now he is shot and so is his trade value.Just another bad call by Sandy.

Niese pitches like he is holding a live hand grenade. He's always on edge, and if anything goes wrong, he just completely breaks down and stuff that grenade up his own butt He has absolutely zero control over emotional impulses..

What good is a lefty pitcher if he can't get anyone out. He is not that good.

So he was pitching pretty decently  with "improper mechanics" but developed a sore shoulder with those mechanics....so he either has to suck it up and play with pain while pitching with "improper mechanics" or just cruise along with these new mechanics and cash checks?

Love the Pelfrey reference, but I hope it's not so.

Niese is jealous of deGrom. He wishes he could pitch as well a Jacob does. He probably also feel being upstaged by deGrom's  media coverage. John, get over it.

Being brought up in trade deals every other day doesnt help his phycee?? He wants to stay with the Mets and not get traded, this is a good way to do it.

We need Niese, at least for now. You have to have at least one lefty in the rotation. But don't forget, Steven Matz is working his way up the ladder. I'm still very excited about next season. Can you imagine ST with Harvey coming back; all the experience that deGrom and Wheeler have gained this year; Niese and Gee; Syndergaard and Montero back on track; and the established bullpen with Familia and Mejia, and Parnell coming back; d'Arnaud hitting better but Plawecki getting close in case; the drafting of Conforto as the best college bat in the draft; and the development of Herrera and Nimmo this year; no questions going into ST as to who will be our 1Bman.

We got to keep throwing him out there in order to find out what's wrong, he probably has a dead arm!

Didn't realize you had to have 1 lefty in the rotation.  I must have missed that rule.

His problems appear (to me at least) to be mental as much as physical. His body language practically screams "MOMMY, I can't do it". Twice last night, he failed to cover 1B on grounders hit to Duda.

He just looks lost out there.

@Jonathan Kava @MetsFan1962 Niese is getting paid 5 mil and has managed to be a .500 starter on awful teams over 7 years. I highly doubt he has any jealously towards a mid tier prospect who is having a couple of great months.

Where do people come up with this stuff?

Lazy, moody and has an ego?  Mocking Met fans last week isn't going to exactly elicity sympathy for him right now.
