Good point haha at least one overpaid "offensive" defenseman is required on the Rangers roster at all times

LMAO! Excellent point in the 1st paragraph. And as for Green, even if it weren't for Boyle's deal, I wouldn't sign Green for that much. He'd become the next Boyle lol

I just know Williams takes a ton of shots in the regular season and puts himself in good positions to score. He'll get some protected minutes playing behind Nash and then when Nash falters in the playoffs, we still have somebody who has risen to the occasion in playoffs' past. And we won't get Beleskey because he's going to get overpaid, but he has a mean streak that the Rangers are lacking. Green would be good in a 2nd or 3rd pairing role but you're right, too rich for the Rangers cap situation. Curse Dan Boyle's contract...

If we had not done the Yandle trade Sekera might have been someone that might have been a good fit on the team as a 2nd or 3rd pair for a year.

I'll tell you who I would be interested in if he weren't so expensive: Mike Green.

Agreed about Hags but not really so high on either of those players. I know Williams has a stellar playoff resume, but for whatever reason, not completely sold on him. We shall see...

Totally agree. Losing Hags stinks but it's the nature of the business in this present day. Definitely a missed opportunity with Talbot. Would love to see the Rangers target Beleskey or Justin Williams tomorrow. Some top 6 forward to give some scoring depth

Beleskey wants $5M and he isn't worth $3-3.5M after just one decent year. Someone will give him the $5M for 4 years and regret it in 6 months.

Justin Williams is interesting if he is willing to take 3rd line money ($2M max) for a chance at another cup. I don't think he fits into the Rangers lineup any other way.

So far. the only really problem I have with all of these off-season moves is that we only got 3 non-1st round draft picks for Talbot instead of a player who can join the line-up when Hank is still in his prime. Otherwise, everything else seams reasonable

On the plus side, they got three draft picks for a player who was an UFA from a non-traditional collegiate program.  Gotta give Talbot and Allaire props for turning Cam into a potential #1 goalie.

If Raanta proves to be a similar back-up this year then no harm no foul with losing Talbot. I don't think the offers were much better that would have made sense for the Rangers. Any trade including a 1st or 2nd round picks would have included more than just Talbot (that's my opinion, maybe I'm wrong but we will probably never know the truth).

The 1st rounder Buffalo gave up for Lehner included taking back a contract like Legwand and that's not something the Rangers were in position to do.

You have the buffalo trade backwards why would it make it easier for Ottawa to revive a 1st round pick by getting rid of a bad contract

ryand

That means the rangers had no bad contacts to throw them?

@twiggy10 Unless I misunderstand you, you might be confused about the Buffalo trade. If we had traded with Buffalo it would have been something like:

To Rangers:

Buffalo's 2015 1st round pick

To Buffalo:

Cam Talbot

Tanner Glass (or whomever)

The Rangers definitely are in position to do that.

I was upset to see Haggerty go but Raanta is a very capable goalie and at that cheap price, he'll be a great asset in case Hank has to miss a few games. Savvy pickup
