Daniel Murphy rounds first

Mr. Murphy goes to Washington

Mets 2B Daniel Murphy will speak on behalf of working fathers at the White House on Monday, June 9,  in advance of their Summit on Working Families.

The Mets are off that day, before starting a series at home against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Murphy will talk about going on paternity leave and missing the first two games of this season, a move that was criticized rather heavily on talk radio.

“It’s an honor and it’s humbling,” Murphy said (Daily News, June 4). “It’s exciting.”

Murphy and his family will travel to Washington DC from San Francisco late Sunday >> Read more at the Daily News.

He's a millionaire whose employer and union bend over backwards to accomodate his every need.  It's not like he's working two minimum wage jobs without any benefits.  I'm sure there are thousands of Dad Only households who manage to keep it together.  With all due respect to Murph, I'd much rather hear from those guys.

(am I missing something here.....Murph is a married male, with a wife, a newborn and a job.  Hasn't that been the way it's always been?  What's so unique about any of this? Sounds like an idyllic situation to me.)

Him and David need a day off.

As a father who raised a son, I applaud Daniel Murphy for taking his day off to stand up for the rights of  fathers.

I wouldn't be surprised if Murphy knocks over the podium by mistake.

Never mind Washington, get your head back into baseball, you've been playing like your half awake!!!

Funny thing...I was just thinking the other day about whether being a new papa has led to Murphy's dropped baseballs and poor hitting in Philadelphia. Wonder if he could be suffering from lack of sleep. We have to remember that baseball players are people too.

Neat headline. Too bad his last name isn't Smith. Or Billy Jack.

Maybe he can ask Obama to Bailout the Wilpons so we can get some clutch hitters to drive in runs when we have men on base.
