During tonight’s game, the winner of this year’s Kidcaster Contest, presented by New York’s 529 College Savings Program, makes his broadcast debut. See 12-year-old Lucas Simms from Hamilton Square, NJ, show off his best play by play skills as he takes a seat in the SNY Booth with Gary, Keith and Ron to call half an inning.
Lucas was selected from the many applicants who submitted an essay in this year’s Kidcaster contest on SNY.tv, answering the question, “What skills have you learned in school that would make you a great broadcaster?”
Lucas, along with nine other essays were selected, and the 10 finalists were invited to audition in the SNY studio back in May by reading their winning essay, along with calling some plays from past Mets games in front of a panel of judges. This was Lucas’ fourth year entering the Kidcaster contest on SNY, and the third year his well-written essay was selected to audition in the SNY studio.
Tune in tonight to see Lucas prove why he was selected as this year’s 2014 Kidcaster on SNY.
