Jacob deGrom 1

Minor leaguers Jeff Walters and Jake deGrom optioned

RHP prospects Jeff Walters and Jacob deGrom have both been optioned to minor-league camp.

DeGrom had been competing for the final spot in the rotation. However, neither he nor Walter were expected to make the Opening Day roster.

It has been reported that both pitchers may be considered later in the season to help in the big-league bullpen.

Walters and deGrom were added to the team’s 40-man roster last November.

It's ALL about service time, has nothing to do with winning. That's why they are spending 5 mil. of their 87 million dollar payroll on concert stars and only 82 mil on field. Won't buy FA's and won't bring some rookies that are ready and can help because of service time. it's ALL ABOUT MONEY with this team.. It is the 1st consideration of every baseball decision, period.

So, does this team not comprehend that WE HAVE FOUR SPOTS FILLED IN 2015 ALREADY!!! Harvey, Wheeler, Thor, Neise, and one of Gee, Mejia, Montero, Colon, or Degrom. So why aren't we trying to see who is the best fit for that final spot? Why are we sending Degrom down? Degrom is 26 and has pitched in AAA.  Also our AAA stadium is a black hole for pitching!! I don't comprehend what we are doing right now. Dice K should never be on this roster. It makes 0 sense.

After the "Chinaman" incident, there's no way that Matsuzaka is not the fifth starter.

Should I read into the fact that Thor was not optioned the day after he pitched? If they were going to demote him one would think this would have been the day.

I'd love to see deGrom as the first starter up in case of an injury.  That's hopefully assuming Mejia makes the rotation.

I would put Wally's AAA team up against Collin's AAAA team any day of the week.

I thought deGrom was in the SS competition.

@grillruben  they want deGrom to start every 5th day, to be ready for a call-up.  No point in keeping him i nthe pen until then.

@mikesml  He has pitched more.  He was in a couple of B games, but those do not count toward Grapefruit League Stats, but they serve the same purpose.

@BadContract Wally's team would get massacred.  To give you an idea of the difference in talent levels between AAA and the majors, here are some AAA stats of some current alleged "AAAA" players.

Duda in AAA - .301/.389/.541

Andrew Brown AAA - .305/.383/.570

Massacred, dude.

@doubleday @grillrubenDidn't say to put him in the bullpen. He's 26 and we are currently slotted to start dice-k in the 5 spot. We have 4 spots taken going forward, and lots of competition already ont he roster for the 5th. So if Degrom is ever going to play in the bigs, now would be the time.

@zoddie You are forgetting  Wally brings out the best and Terry makes every player under perform. In fact rookies come up and do well only to listen to the moronic advice and then under perform. Also lets not forget the terry strategy where double play grounders are base hits due to the moronic shift or saving the closer for a save in extra innings at home. Or the famous intentional walk with two strikes on a batter. finally encouraging stealing 3rd with 2 outs and the complete lack of communication with crashing fielder not only in the outfield but at the mound!!

@zoddie @BadContract  Seriously.  This is like when people say the BCS champion can play with a 1-15 NFL Team.  The college team would get crushed.  The difference in overall talent is just not understood by people.

@grillruben @doubledaydeGrom hasnt pitched much prior to last season as he was converted and injury. He still needs more time. Dice-K will be fine, and deGrom and Montero will be the first callups when someone goes down, which IS going to happen at some point or another.

@72tilltc @zoddie  I think you overestimate that value of managers.  I also disagree on your take of Terry Collins.  Saying every player under performs is an insult to Murphy, Lagares, Satin, Harvey and Gee at a minimum.  Nobody has the same impact on EVERY player on their team.  This is a serious over generalization.
