The Mets expect Wally Backman to return as manager of Triple-A Las Vegas in 2014, a team insider recently told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Rubin says the no other organization has asked to interview to Backman for a manager, although it’s possible Backman could still be hired to be part of another big league coaching staff.
Backman led the Las Vegas 51s to an 81-62 record in the Pacific Coast League in 2013, but were eliminated in the first round of the PCL playoffs.
Last week, Matthew Cerrone wrote this wondering why no one has contacted Backman, and if the Nationals might eventually come calling.
