Video Profile: Mets LHP Blake Taylor, acquired from Pirates

The Mets acquired LHP Blake Taylor to complete the trade that sent Ike Davis to the Pirates in early May.

Taylor was drafted last season by the Pirates in the second round.

In this video for SNY.TV, MetsBlog’s Matthew Cerrone provides a profile of Taylor, while looking at what other sources have said about the organization’s latest pitching prospect:

The only think that sucks more than our playing is the teams drafting of 2nd round picks.  This isn't football, where 2nd round guys usually amount to something. The Mets haven't even drafted a marginal guy (Bill Pulshipher) since 1991!  23 years!!!

Shaving when you know you're going to be on camera, Matthew, is often a good idea.

The biggest disappointment I think is that this is "a significant prospect."  An 18-year old from Rookie Ball is not a significant prospect.  Zach Wheeler is.  Don't leak to the press that nonsense.  Were we likely to get Zach Wheeler type for Ike?  No of course not.  The second biggest disappointment is that the return for Ike is still 3-5 years away at the earliest.  And the third biggest disappointment is that we still have Duda manning first base and the best help from our system is in Savannah.

@dave42  Absolutely a significant prospect.  If you thought we were getting something better than their second round pick for Ike, that's on you.  This is more than I expected the Mets to get.

@dave42  It all depends on your definition of significant. To be honest, I never thought we'd get a prospect this good for Ike so the player is significant. Doesn't matter if he's 3-5 years away if the value is good.

@dave42 Well, he was automatically inserted into the Mets' Top 20 prospects list the moment he joined the franchise, so it helps the farm system, at least according to the scouts for MLB.com.

Funny, mets still won this trade. Since the deal, duda has been better than ike has. Look it up. Even if the two prospects never appear in a game for the nym, we still won because we got more production from duda than ike. His defense is also better than Ike's. A couple catches by the dugout in his rookie season don't make ike a gold glover

And yes I know that duda will never be confused with an all star player, he is still below average at his position. At least he will hit 20-25 homers though.

@Chris Tario  Duda has been better than Ike offensive, but that's not exactly setting the bar high right now. Don't agree that his defense is better than Ike's or too many people for that matter. I don't even think it's a given that he hits 20 homers.

I do think this as a good trade, however.
