Two Mets minor leaguers arrested for drag racing

Mets minor leaguers Wuilmer Becerra, 19, and Vicente Lupo Perez, 20, were arrested early Friday morning in Tennessee for drag racing (WCYB, July 5).

Becerra and Lupo, who play for the rookie league Kingsport Mets, were both driving over 100 miles per hour when they were pulled over by local police.

Becerra was acquired by the Mets with Travis d’Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard from the Blue Jays for R.A. Dickey in December, 2012.

I know a dude who took his modified 88 mustang from Philly down to Plainsboro in 20 minutes. No that isn't a typo. LOL!

Has any 19-20 year old not done a little street racing? I don't have a capable vehicle and wouldn't partake anyway but I know street racing is a popular activity at my school.

Not sure this is even a story.  A teen and a 20 year old were racing cars in the wee hours of the morning on a late Thursday.  Oh boy!!!   Yes, it's dangerous.  But it's also been going on for GENERATIONS in America. This is one time I won't blame Sandy or the Wilpons.

They're young and stupid. Everyone makes mistakes. Didn't Shane Spencer once get caught urinating in a parking lot? No tolerance for a second infraction.

As a former Kingsport resident (and I still live in a neighboring city), I will say that this region treats drag racing seriously.  This stems from an incident a few years ago where a teenage girl was killed after her car was ran off the road by two men drag racing. Also, East Stone Drive is the busiest road in Kingsport, with commercial and residential zones.  They could have easily killed someone.  They are adults, so I say deport them.

And while they are at it, let them take the Kingsport alderman with them who was picked up on his second DUI this weekend.

(Have to say, the Kingsport cops didn't take the holiday weekend off!)

It was in Tennessee. There is nothing to do in Tennessee outside of Nashville.

@metsblog Oh well. Obviously not safe, but who hasn't been that young and raced their friends? Stupid to do but hopefully lesson learned.

Better than a drug charge?  IDK.  I'd rather their stupidity kill themselves by OD than kill someone else.
