Early on anyway, it appears Chris Capuano will be competing for a spot in the rotation, although Terry Collins told reporters last month he will not let Capuano start until he proves he is 100% healthy. I think Capuano is best suited for the bullpen as a lefty specialist, as he has held lefties to a .231 average over his career, and that would afford a greater opportunity for Dillon Gee or another free agent, such as Kevin Millwood should the price be right.
Yesterday, Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger said Capuano is among eight candidates vying for two spots in the rotation, including Jenrry Mejia.
