Travis d'Arnaud 1

Travis d’Arnaud to be activated Thursday

Travis d’Arnaud will rejoin the Mets on Wednesday, but will not be activated off the disabled list for their day game.

4:35 p.m.: D’Arnaud will be activated on Thursday. Catcher Juan Centeno has been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas, Terry Collins announced.

D’Arnaud was put on the 7-day concussion disabled list last week, retroactive to May 14.

He went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and caught for five innings in a rehab game with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. He played just two innings on Tuesday night, as Binghamton’s game was postponed in the second inning.

There is a reason why Darnaud has been traded multiple times.. He is just not that good.. We saw the same thing for overhyped Jarrod Saltilamaccia and Cameron Maybin.. we heard about these guys for years and they are now on their 3rd or 4th team.  Add Rickie Weeks, Mike Moustakis, Gordham Beckham, Travis Snyder,  every Seattle Mariner and Anaheim Angel prospect and you will have a list of cant miss prospects that missed.

Who is to blame for the Mets enamoration with Darnaud?  I would hope they wouldnt just rely on Baseball America and ESPN.  In fact, Sandy has 3 Assistant GM's, each of which (arguably) could be GM's in the league today (or have been)-- Ricchiardi- what has that guy done?  Ricco- cant believe Omar's right hand man is still here.. and Depodesta.   Depodesta was the guy that was supposed to revitalize the minor leagues.  What has he done?  He was bamboozled into thinking that D'Arnaud would be the next Gary Carter or Mike Piazza.  Instead, he looks more like the next Ed Hearn.    Where the hell are the fruits from recent drafts?  Lets not forget that Harvey was signed by Omar.

Can he go down and rehab for being too small, slight, and easily hurt to be a catcher in the bigs? I say he's a bust and just filling time till KP is ready.

I like Travis but he needs to start producing with the bat, nothing last fall, nothing in the spring and nothing so far this year and has issues with pass balls, Recker seems more solid all around, I lie Recker as the backup but only to someone that outplays him and Travis has not. I would have liked to see him spend a couple of weeks rehabbing in AAA. I would like to see Nimmo moved up to AA and Plawecki up to AAA and if they perform, give both opportunities in spring training to make the team next year. I would love to see a couple of young position players to go along with some of the young pitching talent.

He's a loser, too. Powderpuff hitting catcher. We were sold a "bill of goods"

Maybe travis got a chance to catch his breath and figure out how to get on track offensively. This season would be very satisfying if Travis can develop into a legitimate part of the line up. his development is hugely important to the future success of the Mets.

Another capable hitter of filling the 8th hole, seems we have several. Was hoping METS would get him d' a couple dozen AB's at AAA (he's allowed up to 10 days to rehab IAW basic agreement) to get his timing back.....Centeno has proved the scouting reporrts right, he's gonna be a marginal backup type who will hang on because he can catch/throw, no power. remember DeFelice? Centeno is our AAAA catcher. But, rather see MLB caluber guys stay healthy so He can be the AAA backup. I wonder why Teagarden didn't get the call up - besides the 40 man roster issue. Hes just holding  a place for Plawecki till next year as our AAA starter, Centeno backs him up - and hopefully we resign Recker as our #2.

How about Miami staying in 2nd place despite losing Jose Fernandez...whats their payroll?.. about 48 mill?

2 hitter's parks are nice for TDA to come back to.  Hopefully he can "show and prove" because....well frankly it's time.  He doesn't have to be a ROY candidate, but we fans should really see signs of what made him such a highly touted prospect.

nagel100

he has one year to prove himself.  his replacement is in AA.

I never thought I'd say this but thank god - had enough of seeing centeno every day

They should delay bringing TDA back more than just 1 day. They should send him to Vegas to try to get his bat going and build some confidence at the plate. He was terrible all season before the injury and going 1-8 at AA even with a HR does nothing to inspire belief that anything will be any different for him now.

So Sandy says if fans spend more money and come out to the park the Mets can spend more ..I doubt it.

Even if D'arnaud and Flores became 20 hr 75 rbi guys we would still need more offense.

How about Colin McHugh  3-3   2.80 Era 42 innings only 32 hits off him only 12 walks 50 k's including 9 last nite in the 7 innings he didn't walk anybody...pitching very good...fastball was hitting 93 mhp last nite. Wonder why Warthen wasn't able to get him to pitch like that.

I havent given up on him yet. he will be a better player.

He's doing too well in Binghamton. Leave him there.

No need to rush TdA behind the plate. Recker and Centeno have done decent fill-in duty.

He's probably ashamed off being outhit by Plawecki while at Binghamton.  Plow-man had a HR and a double in yesterdays rain shortened game, oh and 5 rbi's by 2nd inning.  Travis got schooled. I'm betting Plawecki is more the iron man behind the plate then Travis.

Did his car service get lost going from Binghamton to Queens?

Why not? What's the rest of the story?
Don't leave us hanging, please.

@Victor Triguero I think eventually he will become a 275-15-20 hr 75 rbi type...Flores about the same.

Let's not overdo this..but I think warthen stresses pitch to contact and try to keep it around 89-90==

Well, maybe Recker, Centeno doesn't look like a Big League player.

John Saponaro

@hankincolo I would imagine it's because he caught last night and they're playing this afternoon so he's not likely to play regardless.

Get him here with the team. Have Centeno play this afternoon, then make the roster move after the game.

@Steven Matregrano Still 48 mill?.. so it can be done....Oaklands at 83 mill still lower than us and look at them..

Brian Webster

@Joe Wenzel I wouldn't have sent him there for only 4 ABs. That's where he should've went to begin with for his rehab. And he should've stayed there till he started showing some of that offensive talent he was projected to have and earned his way back to being the everyday catcher at the MLB level.

@Muhammad A. Gretzky @Steven Matregrano @Albert E Lewis Its just that some teams have lower payrolls and still play well like  Oakland ,Miami..so it is possible to improve a team even with a limited payroll....tired of hearing How strapped Sandy is because of payroll. And why don't we have young players with raw talent?....our scouting system?

charlie duck sauce
charlie duck sauce

@Steven Matregrano @Albert E Lewis

They have young players with raw talent. That's why they've been successful for so many years because the accumulation of raw, boom offensive talent in their system. Can the Mets say they have high ceiling offensive prospects capable of handling themselves at the plate? Maybe, maybe not. But what you see from the Mets, outside of the pitching prospects, are their top offensive prospects who would be considered maybe 5 or 6 in other team's farm systems. Here their talent is measured by other stats like walks and OBP but not by raw strength and talent at plate. If you look at all the ranked prospects currently on the Mets, everyone has a flat swing. Look at other teams top prospects whether they were drafted in the 2nd or 12th round, there is a certain explosiveness like they know what they are doing at the plate. The Mets prospects always look scared to swing. What the mets need to do is get raw offensive prospects with a swagger who could go to the plate, lift that leg, and swing with meaning as if they know what they're trying to do.

Albert E Lewis
Albert E Lewis

@bigdirty @Albert E Lewis Well I guess that means our talent evaluators on the Mets aren't as good as the Marlins. Our Organizational strength is pitching because of the way we draft or the trades we have made. But apparently they were not good enough for us to be in 2nd place which is not opinion but fact.

Albert E Lewis
Albert E Lewis

@Steven Matregrano @Albert E Lewis Still they are doing better than we are with less money..so with all the fans here always saying ''Sandy is strapped by the Wilpons''....he still had more money to work with than Oakland or Miami.

Steven Glansberg
Steven Glansberg

@Albert E Lewis Literally their whole team is making the minimum or close besides two good complementary guys like salty and McGehee

bigdirty
bigdirty

@Albert E Lewis where's the Mets Mike Stanton? $48 million  pay roll is fine if your superstars are under their rookie contract.

The Mets idea for an $85 million  payroll is not terrible but their organizational strength is only in pitching. With a payroll that low you need to have some young position talent really helping out the team. The mets have gotten a decent amount from lagarass, a little from duda and nothing from tejada and travis.

Jeremy Blabac
Jeremy Blabac

If he's ever healthy consistently enough to get to 500 AB's I'd consider that an accomplishment for Travis... I know they say all of his injuries were freak plays but you can only have so many "freak injuries" before it's realized that maybe he puts himself into "freak injury" harm lol.... I just wish the Mets had at least one legit position player future star that just about every other MLB team has!
