Gary yelling everytime legares catches s fly ball does not make him an all-star we can want all round center fielders and stop settling there are outfielders who can catch hit 15 hr steal 20 bases and bat 280

Well, folks, that's pretty much the final nail I the coffin of 2014.  If we can't beat Washington more than one out of every six games, and we've got another, what, 5 or 6 games still to play with them this year?  I can do math.  It was a longshot anyway. Now it's pretty much dead.

So, when do pitchers and catchers report?

The ball changed direction in the replay. Doesn't take a bunch of idiots in NYC to notice that...

The Nats have so many better position players than the Mets.  Add in Zimmerman and Werth and it's almost ridiculous the talent differential.

Ramos, LaRoche, Desmond, Rendon, Zimmerman, Werth, Span, Harper

So I am reading some of the Lagares hate again for whatever reason...I will combat it with this

Lagares was not even in the plans. Dude came out last season and was immediately the best defender in the entire org. Through 121 games he showed that hitting was an area of improvement. He played winter ball in the off-season and hits over .300. This season he improved his average from .242 to almost .280 as of today AND his averages with RISP are among the best on the team. He has speed but has not been given the go ahead to steal yet due to his hammy. He is the best leadoff hitter on the team WHEN he batted leadoff. He plays smart and is a hustler..a gamer...he makes mistakes but is not Murphy when it comes to that.

Lagares came up here and immediately took away the position from the equally defensively heralded Den Dekker and Kirk..just like that...no questions asked. WHY...because his CF defense is arguably the best in baseball.

If the Mets get offense for LF and SS...if Duda shows this season is no fluke...if Wright reverts to the last 9 years Wright and d'arnuad hits like the top prospect he was projected to be...you stick Lagares in the 8th hole...and revel at the runs he saves this team. He is invaluable...like him or hate him. If you know and watch baseball regularly you know how important he is

another month and a half of garbage time. gary/keith/ron are barely aware there's a game going on, hitting practically every story in MLB and what flavors of tootsie pop were delivered to the booth.

the wilpons continue to torture us as they hold this franchise hostage . .

and they'll do nothing this off season. as usual, mets are a day late and a dollar short.  they have an abundance of young pitching when the real commodity now is young power bats. they'd have to trade a  ton of that pitching to even get a B+ slugger . .

Wow Mejia looking dominant, and we're getting wrecked.

This is cruel, but I hope that Mejurnia heals up soon

@Rimo Chaloney  Hit his front foot and NO BALL changes directions like that one did without hitting something, curve rotation or no curve rotation.

@docj If you are asking if we would prefer Stanton over Lagares? Offensively..of course..but not defensively and Stanton is not a CF.

Lagares is better defensively than both Span and Melky...

I want Lagares as my CF..no one else

@Paul LeBarron @BerryBeltran Last 3 or 4 years Wright has been a great player. Here are his WAR stats since his peak in 2007.

2007 8.3

2008 6.8

2009 3.2

2010 2.8

2011 2.0

2012 7.0

2013 5.8

2014 2.7

So he bottomed out in 2011, was a great player in 2012 and 2013; now in 2014 he's regressed significantly again. But if you think he's been bad the last 3 or 4 years you're simply incorrect.

BerryBeltran
BerryBeltran

@Sam Mack Yes, a lot of ifs...but Lagares is not an if at all..dude is the real deal defensively...it is known around baseball now..you hit it to him...9 out of 10 times it is caught....you try to run on him..you will be thrown out...you NEED that fear from the opposing team...

theglider

No he doesn't. Home runs can come elsewhere.

BerryBeltran

@docj @BerryBeltran Who cares man..(no offense)

if the rest of the guys on the team are hitting..he doesn't need to hit 15-20 Home runs too. And who is to say he won't. He is still young and already has made tremendous improvement offensively. He is the one guy on this team that gets to prove what he can do day in and day out. He deserves the chance
