People face it..Flores is not in the SS plans. No matter how much we all wanted to believe that Sandy and TC weren't just blowing smoke, they were. Q at SS with Flores at 2B today says all we need to know about the legitimacy of that plan.....and please stop with these truly stupid trade ideas for Franklin. Just watch him play...or look at his stats. The guy is a lousy SS who swings for the fences and would add another 125 (at least) strikeouts to an order that already strikes out far too much. That's just not worth 15 HRs

If Flores keeps hitting this way, we can put the SS experiment to rest for good (though it probably is already). I like the kid, but he's looking like all arms, flailing up there...not sure how he can drive the ball swinging that way. and it looked like he almost sprained an ankle coming out of the box on that lazy foul ball check swing.

Not trying to put too much weight into spring training, but D'Arnaud isn't looking too sharp up there either.

The link for SNY Gameday is wrong - it is the one for the game against WAS.

Call me crazy but if I'm Sandy I'm on the phone with Seattle and offering TDA , DeGrom and Duda for Monetro (just optioned AAA) and Franklin! Get it done!

Mets should have no trouble beating that Cubs line up.  I was a bit worried about 2. but seeing 5. and 7. in there makes me think we can beat them easily.

This is seriously frustrating and I try very hard - bless my heart - to not get too emotionally invested in spring training. Flores needs to be playing everyday somewhere, whether it be with the big club or in the minors. The only position he could potentially play everyday in the majors is short (or perhaps first, but that would seem redundant assuming Satin is on the team). Coincidentally, we have yet to establish an opening day shortstop. You'd think this would be a no-brainer for the front office and TC (who probably doesn't have as much input with these lineups as the blog would like to think, though admittedly, he's fun to root against for some reason); see if the guy who needs to be a starter to stick around can fill a hole in the lineup at a position he used to play. If he can't, so be it. But the resistance to even trying it is just stubbornness.

Terry, would you put Flores at SS and let him get like 5 games in a row or something there so we can see if he can play, what is wrong with this organization.

Again, WTF is someone not named Flores, Tejada or trade/free agent acquisition doing playing short?!?!?!? We know what Q is, a triple A player at best. Why do we keep marching him out there like he's going to be our starting SS?

Flores playing 2b is so stupid, what is Terry and company thinking here, we know what Quintinilla is we are supposed to be finding out about Flores and if he can handle SS, I mean what are the mets doing, this organization boggles the mind, so tired of their philosophies.

I guess Flores at SS is a distant memory for Terry now, smh.

2-run shot for Flores...nevermind! lol

D'Arnaud has shown nothing. I'd like to believe the hype about him, how the pitchers like him, how he's coming along etc, but I've seen nothing.

@Nick Sacco  crazy would be the most polite thing I could think to call you for that idiotic trade. Franklin is a Dan Uggla in the making who can't field. And Montero is simply awful...awful awful awful. He can't even play DH, Nevermind catcher..... tell the nurse to turn off your morphine drip. You're cut off

@Nick Sacco   You're crazy.

(1) TDA is worth more than Montero and Franklin combined.

(2) Montero is done.  I wouldn't trade Duda straight up for him.

@smartfan69 The idea that Flores has to play SS in spring training games for the Mets to find out if he can play SS is nonsense.  They have seen him play SS for years and know exactly what he can and cannot do.  Only fans who haven't been paying attention to the last 6 years of Flores' career still need to see him play there.

And even if the Mets thought Flores somehow became a better SS by going to this stupid conditioning camp, wouldn't it be more efficient to find out by hitting him a couple hundred ground balls on a practice field than sticking him out there in ST games and hoping he gets 2 or 3 balls hit his way?

@mike23 The Mets already know if he can play and apparently they don't feel the need to play him there to prove it to the fans.

Maybe Flores is playing SS because they are hoping to leave Vegas with Casto as their SS.Cubs need a 2B and Mets made a late decision to bring Flores and not Murphey, who was originally expected to go.Flores and a pitcher might get something done. The cubs might like a MI of Beaz and Flores for the next 10 years. You never know.

I think they already decided that he can't and now they have to see if he's serviceable as the backup to all 4 IF positions.

@rkj473 As it should be.  It was waste of time.  Flores is supposed to be trying to learn 2B, not wasting his time at a position he has already proven he can't play.

Totally agree. I do not trust D' Arnaud. He looks terrible at the plate. And is it me or does he look really small?

smartfan69
smartfan69

Well you're right, I haven't paid much attention to his fielding in the minors. Is his defense really so bad at short that his bat doesn't offset it and make him a better option than Tejada? That'd be grim. I'd like to live in a world where any reasonably athletic person could play adequate enough defense, given they have the offensive skill set, to be a better option than Tejada. But hey, that's just me.

nolrog

@jamets They already know he can't play short.  They don't want to let him get out there too much in fear we will know it too.

@metstastic  They made that decision after a couple innings at SS this spring?

jamets
jamets

@rkj473 @metstastic No, they made that decision after watching him play SS full time for 4 years in the minors.  So did every scout who saw him play.
