Being a real mets fan means rooting for this train wreck of a team to lose 50 out of 80; that way the front office has to abandon ship or build a legitimate team.

Do we really expect to win when our best hitter is Daniel Murphy or Bobby Abreu? We have holes in 3/5 infield spots and our outfield doesn't have anyone close to being a superstar. Other teams have Yasiel Puig, Gregory Polanco, Mike Trout, Yoenis Cespedes, Andrew McCutchen, Nelson Cruz, Melky Cabrera, Ryan Braun the list goes on...

The team has failed on every level from the players to the owners. They've severely underperformed if 90 wins is the goal. We have a few real solid players worth keeping, when will they actually be built around?

Bring in an all-star hitter! We need a powerful presence in the lineup more than anything else. Duda, Wright, and Granderson get better when another, more dangerous, threat is batting in between them. The whole lineup changes, it takes pressure off everyone.

This mess has gone on long enough. The team is worth billions, there's gotta be an an investment that makes sense for both parties if the Wilpon's don't sell. Spend money to make money, Citi Field will sell out every night if the team is playing for something.

How can the man who owned the 1986 World Series be the same unapologetic, lousy owner we have today? I'm a Mets fan for better or worse, but I won't spend a dollar on anything Mets or even watch the games if this culture of losing is accepted by the front office. Any sane Mets fan would do the same.

No more thinking it's gonna turn around when they win 3 out of 4 every once in a while. Do something to get fans really excited about this team, even if it means selling everyone to bring in some proven talent next year. The farm is never going to produce a winning team by itself.

If Sandy continues to make choices like signing Chris Young, Shawn Marcum or trade pagan for garbage, he needs to go! If Terry is going to continue to lose games and underperform, he needs to go! If the Wilpon's don't demand results and spend like the highly valuable major market team they are, we need to turn our backs on them. Go see a minor league game, you'd be better off.

Give us the decency of leveling with fans about the state of the team. Stop spitting in our faces by spinning BS and just admit failure. At least we'd have the hope that the people in charge recognize the problems and are working to fix them.

I'm beyond sick of resenting the team I grew up loving so much. I'm over every discussion being about how awful they are. How about rewarding the most loyal and passionate fans in the world with a team worthy of our time and money?

Look at the replay in 10th inning, Tejada fails to tag him on the grass, points to the baseline, has the ball while Harrison is 30 feet from third. Points to Harrison and than He turns his back on Harrison as he scampers to the 3rd base bag. NO BASEBALL SENSE.

Look at the replay.

Campbell looks out of place at 3b and forget SS. I like him though, but it looks like1B only, defensively. Where is Flores? 3B is his natural position.

We will get another top 10 (protected) draft again in 2015.

Remember when CY hit those 3 HR's? I think he had his moment to turn it around. We now see it was an anomalie and he has reverted to an empty uniform. Let's not play Nieuwenhuis...thanks TC

Sandy the wilpons and selig are running another Ponzi scheme, manipulating and stealing money from their fanbase. They probably exclude terry from the proverbial "lunch table". Maybe it's because they all have the same religion or they just are cheap and dont care about the fan base.

the most frustrating thing about it, is the mets are in so many games that they lose, i mean this game was really close. the pitching on this team is actually really good. Really , really good. Mejia slammed the door on what could have been the game ending in the 11th inning. Since the mets can't score any runs the bullpen looks bad, but really, they did good, giving up 3 runs in 12 innings is actually great pitching

Daniel Murphy is the epitome of a player that tries to do way more than they are capable of.  He has the absolute lowest baseball IQ I've seen in a long time.

Collins fiddles while Rome burns. How can you justify sitting Kirk AND Abreu vs a right handed starter when you're starved for runs. Get a manager who wants to win, not one who somehow is trying to appease the GM by starting his mistake in right field. The guy hits a couple of mistakes out of the park and suddenly everything is better. Chris Young struck out on a wild pitch tonight. Enuff said.

this game could have gone 18 innings, this mets offense is bad, david wright can't come back soon enough

But Sandy keeps telling us how hard the Mets play for Terry and yet they make more mental errors than any team I've ever seen. Exactly what do they do in Spring Training?

No offense. Big inning for Mejia and then the Mets come up and go down 123. Just no excuse for this kind of team.

Amazes me that he puts Tejada in the 2 hole and he sits the lefty's against a RHP! Why is Chris Young playing against righties? Platoon you ahole Collins!!! Lefty-righty etc!!! He has to go!

Was it just me or was it true that Granderson gave up on that ball too soon - was trying not to hurt himself against the wall on a play he could never make or was there a chance, if he really went for it?  I never saw the replay, but it seemed he stopped to take the bounce off the wall, when there would be no way to do anything at that point.  The only play was to run as hard as he could and jump it seemed and he didn't do that, although to be fair, there's probably no way he catches that ball, but you never know.  I think Lagares might have had it, if it happened to be in the same spot, but in his territory.

Can we try and score more than 2 runs against the "mighty" pirates?

@Jerry Colfer I was wondering if those 3 HRs were going to doom us to be saddled with him for a lot longer, if he will truly revert back.  Interesting about the "Bob Melvin factor":)

@sandybgone Cargo yes - not sure about Kemp - so injured.  For what we'd have to give up, could be worse than the Mo Vaughn trade, but you never know.  Kemp's only hit 2 HRs - I dunno.

@hashburry He seems to get carried away a lot, but he seems to probably have a very high baseball IQ for hitting.  Him and Keith are two of the best non-slugging hitters the team has had - of course, there are others, but Murphy as of now is a career .291 hitter.  But I definitely get your point.  And I agree that maybe the coaches can get on and help him or it might just be his personality.  He has improved so much as a hitter and a fielder and those other aspects of his game need to be addressed - and least, they have to try - maybe they are working on it.  When you consider that some of those are mental mistakes, also I cut him a little slack, considering the schedule and that he is run out there every game.

metsfanman

@hashburry Much as I agree that he makes too many bonehead base running and defensive plays, I don't really fault Murphy for trying to steal a base when he did in today's game. The offense had been stagnant for innings and I think it was a fine idea to try to get into scoring position and make something happen. Of course, once the Pirates pitched out, it looked like a dumb play, but i think this a case where hindsight is 20/20.

January 12th
January 12th

@hashburry i think that the dugout called for him to try and steal, i don't think he did that on his own, granted he is slower than snails racing through peanut butter, i don't think he had the gumption to try and steal for himself, he's no jose reyes, or eric young jr for that matter

@sickofit  The general manager probably reminded him that we made a promise to CY.  Terry does as he's told.

metsfanman

@sandybgone Agree Alderson hasn't done anything impressive, but I think the owners and their unwillingness (and/or inability) to spend have been the real problem. When you shop in the bargain section, for every Marlon Byrd, you're gonna get a lot of Chris Youngs and Frank Franciscos.

Steven Molello

But I think we should give him credit for signing Cruz and Abreu. Oh, wait..

@citifield he may allow them to trade him, jose reyes, and carlos beltran are sitting pretty now

@citifield I have faith he'll pitch a good game. With the lack of run support they've given him & the lineup they'll be throwing out  there tomorrow, can't say I'm confident he'll get a win.

cver

@sandybgone And they also listened to Tejada and challenged the play like fools, when the replay clearly showed no way that he was out.  That could have cost us huge later, if we needed that challenge.

January 12th
January 12th

@sandybgone this is so true, tejada can not allow the umpire to make the call on that play, he has to take matters into his own hands and be thorough, the umpires did have it wrong though, but tejada can't stop the play until he hears the umpire call him out, or safe, when josh harrrison ran onto the grass, it was so blatant that tejada thought for sure that the umpire would call him out, when he did not he should have pursued and tagged him, but the umpires were wrong in my humble opinion

@citifield  The call doesn't even matter anymore. They didn't score that inning so it's not why they lost

cver

@Mario Arduini And I'm wondering if Alderson and Co. had any clue about Wright's injury before they sent Flores down.  When Wright was slumping and they said he wasn't injured, I was skeptical and I am wondering what the team knew and when they knew it, regarding his injury, as he hid his broken back problem a few years ago.

He played that way on the Yankees. No surprises here.

@cver He was not playing a no doubles defense. I watched it over and he was not deep enough for his skills. He needed to play deeper and would have had a chance as it was hit on a fly.

@cver  I don't think he had any chance of catching that.  It was a shot.

@Tormented Mets Fan  Yeah, that sums it up for a lot of people.  I don't agree that it's as bad as it's ever been, but it's very frustrating to watch how this team is run these days.

@sandybgone, true we need more consistency there, hopefully travis d'arnaud finds himself, that trip to the minors may have been what the doctor prescribed

@markd So they really screwed up - bad managing - not play no double defense.  That's maybe where the real fault lies, if any.
