I think this team is short of a power bat. Don't know who we can get but it'd have to be a potent bat. That way the lineup would see better pitches.

Also like someone said earlier in this post, I'd trade Colon to the Indians for some decent prospects...

Just watched that play at the plate again...Solano sliding head first into home on a play at the plate.  smdh.

hmmm....is this team, right now, playing the BEST it can play?  (with this pitching, these PPs, adding nothing else)

Do you think they will do something at the trade deadline?

Its amazing the difference a hitting D'Arnaud and Duda have made over the last week.

Like many of you, i was becoming increasingly disgruntled with this teams direction, but after this week, it makes me really believe this team is a big bat away from serious contention

Ya gotta believe?

I did not expect an easy win with Alvarez pitching.

Terry finds a way to not totally enjoy this win by his bull pen choices. He really is an idiot. Great to hammer Alvarez tho

Familia threw 8 pitches. God he must be worn out.

@C.K. Dexter Haven I think so. But they're all not going to stay hot at the same time. It's still the 4-run rule.

Oh and they should feel free to trade Chris Young!!!

Trade Colon if it's a good return. Really doesn't hurt the team assuming Niese is healthy

@eric88  I hate to say it but no I don't think they will ! This division is so week they should try  but they wont . Wilpons suck !

@eric88 Nope.  This season will sink or swim with the players you've seen to this point...and MAYBE without Colon (but that will be a trade for a prospect)

@sandybgone give them credit for converting Familia and Mejia to short relief, though. Brilliant move with all these starters.

@citifield I'm still not there yet.  I'm torn between finally enjoying this team (which is mostly a product of the last GM...which everyone seems to hate) and still HATING the Wilpons and wanting them to sell.  When i see 2 first half games "presented with limited commercial interruptions" on SNY and more games sold to PIX and small crowds at Citi, I think it's finally getting to them and maybe they'll see the writing on the wall.

I@citifield t depends what they do at the Trade deadline. If Sandy takes this seriously, than I will

@citifield

That's good.  Punish the losing, but Reward the winning.  Wilpons need to be trained.

@sandybgone  I completely agree.  Especially considering the team.  The Marlins...Florida OR Miami have given the Mets fits over the years at inopportune times.  taking the series opener was big

@eric88 @C.K. Dexter Haven No, I mean does this team have more to give? or are they basically playing at the height of their talent level.  IMO if the answer is they are playing to their best, then they are indeed a player or three away.  But if they've got more to give....then they definitely need another manager

@fredo They need to trade Colon regardless of the return to free themselves up from having to pay him $11M next season.  Would much rather see that money put toward a LF or SS for next season.

theglider

Why? He threw 8 pitches. He's fine but now we know that.

theglider
theglider

Because it's not like Familia was a sure thing. Why not let him pitch with a big lead and see if he's ok? You don't want to learn that in a 3-2 game.

theglider
theglider

They're winning with pitching, defense and timely hitting from all sources. If the bullpen can hold the close leads then I think they're playing as well as they can. He'll they just won 7-1.

fredo

I agree, it would be nice if they got a decent return tho. I read somewhere that Cleveland was interested in bringing him pack and the local paper was talking about pretty decent minor league prospects

@eric88  You think he does?  I don't think he's concerned with that.  I think his objective is off the field.

jenkins

@theglider Didn't he say his arm was tired a couple days ago? With this teams recent history of overworking the staff, I would take his word for it. Mejia said the same thing.

fredo

I don't agree. Eveland and Carlyle have to pitch sometime. If 7-1 isn't secure enough then they only pitch when they are losing big. I think Familia is a potential star and a better BP arm than Mejia. Hate to see him overused. Anyway it was a very enjoyable win. Go win tomorrow!
