Just atrocious.  There are no words to describe how awful this team plays at home.

GOATS:

1. Granderson - 0-5 and batting .140 is not going to get it done from our cleanup hitter. I worry Citi Field / the curse of Jason Bay has already gotten into his head...

2. Valverde - God awful. 4 HRs in last 3 games

3. Collins - How can you not pitch hit for Tejada in the 8th inning with Brown & Satin & Recker on the bench? And why put Valverde into a non-save situation in the 1st place?

If you put Granderson in front of Wright, Duda and Young then perhaps he'll get more pitches to hit.

Perhaps EYJ, Granderson, Wright, Duda, Young, Murphy, d'Arnaud, Tejada, Pitcher?

The comments section after a game like this really makes me question my already limited faith in humanity.

LaTroy Hawkins just got his 5th save for the Rockies.  We could've used him.

FREE VIC BLACK!!!!!

WHERE ARE YOU BRANDON NIMMO???

I know that their scummy closer gave it up tonight, but you CANNOT let that guy keep cheating.  Probably the only reason he didn't close it out is that he ran out of gas - and by that I mean, ran out of whatever it is he has usually in more of an abundant supply of on the bill of his cap.  A real manager would have called the umps out and conviscated his hat the first time he came in to pitch against us.  There is absolutely no gamesmanship from our manager.  That lack definitely has cost us games.  And yes, Tejada not being pinch hit for - sure he could have come through and maybe it's a second guess, but most would say, as Darling did, that it was the standard move in that situation.

3 hits for Wright and this idiot Jimmy blames him???? This clown knows nothing about baseball. Go be a Yankees fan, you will fit right in. Wow.

Let's take a look at this lineup tomorrow:

EY

Murph

Wright

Duda

CY

Granderson

Recker

Q

Gotta change things up if they aren't working, Duda gets on base and would be better choice for 4. Recker is mashing, why not give him a shot?

Tejada sucks.

Saying this loss is on Terry Collins is ignorant. Terry didn't misplay an easy bunt. He didn't serve up a meatball to their cleanup hitter. He didn't go 0-5 and leave ducks on the pond repeatedly.

This loss - and every loss this season - belongs with the front office and owners. Saying this loss was on TC is like someone coaching their varsity football team against an NFL team and saying the ensuing loss was due to poor coaching.

Please bat Granderson second and Murphy fifth, you will see that this team will look totally different.

TC is now a senior citizen, time to go, please!

Valverde is done.  Can't have your closer offering up moon shots every night.  Time to go to plan C, whatever that is.

for starters -- get Valverde off this team now.. and then move forward

the clock on granderson and the hole in his bat has started-

Good thing Duda can work out walks. OBP is great for stat heads, but it don't mean jack when you leave the game up to a rookie.

i didn't know jason bay changed his name to granderson.

@Victor Triguero Tampa knows how to evaluate, scout, draft and develop talent year after year which is what the Mets are sorely lacking.

@Victor Triguero Not saying this is the #1 factor and I'm really asking this, because I don't know, but do the Rays fans boo their struggling players mercilessly?  I am nearly sure that is why the Mets play worse at home.

Would not move murph out of the 2 hole.

I think it is a good move. You got to get him going

@TheJMan  Vic Black isn't getting to NY until he figures out how to throw strikes. Farnsworth seems like the next option

@TheJMan I was at the St. Lucie Met game last night.  I know it is only single A, but Nimmo looks like a man among boys in the Florida State League.

@John Kranzley  Not sure why you think a team that doesnt hit will change. You're suggesting shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic

cver

@Mud Flap You're right - the front office is to blame for keeping Terry.  You are right, but even when games are flubbed by whatever is on the field, the manager, in a game that the team kept fighting back from, has to be able to make the moves needed to cover whatever margin needs to be covered.  He's just not getting it done.  It's not all on him and, for example, Tejada could have come through and made him look like a genius.  I think that Collins wants to show his faith in Tejada and "see what he has" and hope that he will come through and get his confidence up.  There's something to be said for that.  He's looking "longterm", but longterm also means you have to win ballgames.

xplr
xplr

@samc  Naah. Mets should sign him and Tejada to long term deals.

@Macacawitz  Valverde was plan C. Vic Black was plan B, but he can't find the strike zone. I guess next up would be Farnsworth.

@MartyBarrett17  what are they a world series team? gotta give the rookie a shot to grow--they are a 70-win team.. you need TDA to be good--he had a good at bat

what he didn't do was bat for tejada in the 8th -- that was a dumb move

hubie_wc

What do want him to do there. Kimbrel was all over the place.

cver

@Chris Gerson It sure seems that way, but I pray not.  It was a loss, but I think that Chris Young had a tiny bit of a coming out party tonight.  Hopefully this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with him.

@cver @Victor Triguero  or, maybe they play worse at home because they're not a good team?

And lock up Murphy you cheap fux

He could have hit for tejada but it's not like Q and Brown are good options. Maybe satin.

He was 0-2 with meatballs, then he was all over the place.

Granderson is a 230 hitter, should have known that going in. He is not a good hitter

@Chapter 7 I was exactly thinking that just tonight.  Offer him 5 years at 70 million.

TheJMan
TheJMan

@hubie_wc  who is saying bat Q? you put Q in the field bro.. after you hit anyone but Tejada -- Satin is fine in that situation---gotta take the chance

cver
cver

@John Kranzley Right, but if he's going to hit 25 for the Mets, he should probably have 3 by now and tonight would have been a good time for one - would have won the game.
But maybe when we play in a bandbox like Philly, he'll hit a few - I can only hope.
