@markd Agree with the Granderson analogy .We have a lot of talent in the Minors hopefully we have some thing to look forward too.Being a Mets fan is tough occupation. My son was a Yankee fan made Him a Met fan, he must Hate me LoL.

Bunting ANYBODY to get to Tejada is Sheer stupidity, plain and simple.

What the heck is Granderson doing out there?Wind sprints from the plate to the dugout.

Even Gary and Ron are confused...first they say it looks like the Mets are going to let these kids prove themselves and the next thing Terry does is bunt Flores. This team needs to not worry about losing at this point and let all the young guys audition. I think in the 7th and 8th inning Terry was of that mindset and then choked and went back to overly conservative in the 9th. We're not making the postseason (duh) so we might as well just see who might have MLB talent.

I wish the Wimp-ons would come out of the closet and make a statement on where the team is and what the future holds. They obviously don't give a cr@p about their fans

Is every one forgetting we probably could have had the Cubs SS? Too late now.

I think the bunt was the right move. Tejada simply had an awful game and did not come through. Flores had a good game. Hats off to Flores lovers and Tejada haters.

Sandy has had FOUR DRAFTS. Not one player has reached the Major Leagues and no one good is close, on a team he knows won't spend!!

Theo Epstein, 2 drafts= the # 1 rated Farm System in MLB.

They played for the tie instead of the Win and in that case they should have had Tejeda bunt a Safety squeeze.I would have liked to seen Flores hit they saw He could not get his  curve ball over He didnt have his best stuff tonight but thanks to Collins he bailed the braves out.

If u are evaluating players for next year and trying to win the game you let flores hit. Terry let mdd swing away and flores is a better hitter. With no out a bat walked and a runner in scoring position flores in the drivers seat. Time to sit dead red fastball. Flores will only be a major leaguer if he is knocking in runs. Taking the bat out of his hand in key rbi spot is not showing u if he can produce runs or not. Another example of why Terry must go. If u are a young player on this roster u will never develop. TERRY IS HORRIBLE MANAGER. Why is he setting up tejada for the big at bat? TEJADA CANT HIT.

Listen, Tulo is injury prone, I realize that. Sometimes you gotta risk it for the biscuit. Make the trade, and if Tulo gets hurt, fine I'll eat my words

This is why Terry should not be the manager next year. Manager should know strengths and weaknesses of his players. He should have not have Flores bunt in that situation. We all knew the chance of Tejada to hit a fly ball deep enough or get a base hit was less than 25% (I'm being generous since his BA is below 25%), except him. Terry thinks that Tejada is some kind of a stud. SMH

This team has too many players closer to .200 than .300. Unless you play like the Cards did in the 80's by scraping out runs with rabbits on base, the Mets with style of play cannot win scoring 2 runs a night. While Flores' HR is the exception and not the rule, I just think you gotta play the hot hand and not let Ruben be your ace in the hole here.

What a great move by Gonzalez to bring the infield in. They know Tejada sucks...why let the Mets tie it with a ground ball?

eric88
eric88

Talk about defense. I have seen Tejada cost us 5 games this year on brain farts alone.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

By the way...Flores is hitting .217 in the last month with 4 XBH in 24 games...so where is this big disrespect to him?

markd
markd

@eric88 Should have had DeGromm pinch hit for him. Better odds there.

markd
markd

@truth77 Most free agents around the league have been busts the past few years. He appears to be another. Plus he has no protection to make things even harder for him with this anemic hitting team. And he should not be a lead off hitter with his average.

markd
markd

@Steven Molello They are in debt for nearly $1B with huge interest payments. Google it. They are not in a position to pay for players. They are looking for prospects period.

@markd Sandy DOES NOT trade for Major League players

@nhmetsfan It is the right move 99% of the time. But (1) the Mets are not playing for anything except to evaluate their young players for next year and (2) is not the right play if the next batter Tejada vs Kimbrel. The odds are simply stacked against Tejada to come through in that situation. Terry simply bet on low percentage play and lost. If it's only a few times, I can understand. But it seems like he keeps making the same low percentage play over and over again. He cannot manage any other way.

Steven Molello
Steven Molello

@nhmetsfan If you've been watching, Tejada routinely has awful games. That's why his decision was blatantly wrong.

markd
markd

@nhmetsfan Kimbrel is too good to give him a free out and then to let Tejada be your next batter.

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

That is one of the dumber and most misguided analysis I've seen.

Especially considering we have a top 4 system.

Dana Smith

@eric88 The Mets were ranked 6th recently right? But Sandy did make trades for d'Arnaud and Wheeler who are making impacts right now. Syndergaard is another. Vic Black? Dillson Herrera? He drafed Nimmo and Plawecki. Smith? These are highly touted prospects. Conforto might be the best draft pick he's made yet. In his defense, players take time to come through the system. The Cubs have traded away a lot of their talent and made room for this young players. But look, Baez has some holes. Rizzo and Castro are nice players for sure. He traded for Addison Russel, but got rid of his ace with not one imminent.

Sean Lee
Sean Lee

@Brandon Hillman Obviously, he is the only one who thinks Tejada can hit. I would have either pinch hit Kirk and go for the win or at least pull a suicide squeeze.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@Tormented Mets Fan Youll eat your words, while the Wilpons shell out 20 mil a year for 7 more years and we get more Wilpon haters complaining they wont spend money. Its not worth it.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@Sean Lee He's hung up on the Tejada that hit .285 in 350 ABs like 3 years ago. he clearly isnt that player.

markd
markd

@Steven Molello It is actually insane and most managers would not chance it because a hit through the infield loses the game. You would be so second guessed. That is why it is so embarrassing for it to have been successful. Ruben is so pathetic. I would have also brought the CF in to block a hit through the middle. He is a backup SS at best and was a backup SS when Reyes was here.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@C.K. Dexter Haven The point is they want to see what these kids can do. We know he can bunt now...great. The point is, they gave Tejada ANOTHER chance, when he clearly doesnt deserve one and the only reason he is playing is because our 2B is banged up.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@markd @truth77 I wasnt big with the Granderson signing. I knew he was a product of Yankee Stadium with the 40 HRS. I was hoping he could fix his swing, realizing he wont be hitting a ton of homers, get back to making more contact and not trying to pull the ball every at bat and maybe be a .260 hitter again with 20HRs and 30 2Bs and some triples while hitting 5th/6th. But he hasnt changed much at all, and they have him hitting leadoff. Its a mess of a situation.

Steven Molello
Steven Molello

@markd @Steven Molello Then urge all the Met fans you know to avoid CitiField. The only hope we have is it becomes so embarrassing to the league that they have to push the Wilpons to sell at least a part share in the team.

markd
markd

@eric88 @markd Only for prospects who probably received signing bonuses from other teams.

nhmetsfan
nhmetsfan

@Steven Molello @nhmetsfan

Actually they both stink offensively, but in 2014

Tejada .262 RISP

Flores  .237 RISP

Agree that giving up an out is arguably bad against Kimbrel, but scoring a run with an out is more likely. He just failed.

eric88
eric88

@BringBackDaveTelghe Ranked 6th after four years trading no prospects away. You have misguided expectations. Keep waiting. You obviously do not see the difference between the 2 GM's, who's dumb?

eric88
eric88

@Dana Smith @eric88 FOUR YEARS!! What if Minaya didn't leave him a perrenial All Star and a CY pitcher to trade? You could have made those trades.

Sean Lee
Sean Lee

@kingsword1 @Sean Lee Sandy, can you now comprehend why the Mets record should be better given the run differentials? Mets lost so many games by a run or in the Xtra innings

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@kingsword1 @Tormented Mets Fan Its counterproductive, considering he is on the couch recovering from season ending surgery. He is hurt every year, and misses significant time. Guess who the backup would be?.... RUBEN TEJADA! He gets his 67th chance to prove himself...and hit .220.

Steven Molello
Steven Molello

@markd @Steven Molello Not insane when you know the player. In every sport there are inherent risks. When Ruben Tejada is at the plate, the risk is minimal.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Dana Smith @C.K. Dexter Haven No, the point first and foremost is to win the game.  Taking away the DP possibility and giving you 2 shots to tie/win the game is taking your best shot to do that

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@kingsword1 @C.K. Dexter Haven Tejada cost the Mets the game tonight.  But that doesn't make the bunt play wrong.  Tejada has 2 walk off hits, a pinch hitter behind him and Flores HR or no HR tonight is hitting .217 the last month.

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

Irrelevant numbers there. Just paring down sample size and pretending there's meaning. There's not.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@C.K. Dexter Haven I understand where you are coming from, I really do. But at the same time, Tejada is no better in that situation. Tejada was on the bench for a reason. Flores was starting over him for a reason. I just dont like the move.

markd
markd

@eric88 @markd Sad ain't it since we have not had great showings the past few years and should have decent draft picks.

Sean Lee
Sean Lee

@kingsword1 @Sean Lee His bullpen management was horrible. He managed too many games like it was the WS game. He used RP for 1 freaking batter too many times.
