Lagares should be the everyday CF, Young is a fourth outfielder not a starter.

This is the exact lineup I would like on a day-to-day basis, with a rotation of Lagares and Young, Jr. at the top of the order. They are both raw hitters, especially Lagares, but they are essentially the only 2 players on our roster than can bring the speed threat needed. As for Satin, yes, I would rather watch him play at this point than Davis or Duda. I know that its Davis' job to lose, and Duda keeps getting chances all over the place, but to me they really need to earn daily lineup spots.

Not impressed with Daisuke or Lannan so far.  Meija needs a legit shot and making this team, not just Terry talk.  Rubin cannot start at SS for this team, it's just unbearable to watch.  Outfield looks good.

wait a second, what does DH stand for again?

Alderson expects to win 90 games with this lineup..pshhh. what a complete moron. you don't have a good hitting shortstop...matt harvey out for the 2014 season...not signing stephen drew...what more should i say!!

The money wasted on Colon Young and Drew would have been better spent on Jose along with  Lagares Montero Mejia Thor would have been a brighter future. Sandy is a moron TC is an idiot. Tejad ruined Ike ruined  soon he will ruin Flores and Lagares!!!!

Also, for a guy who's fighting for his playing career and should be focused and in the best shape of his life, the fact he's either been sidelined or has been a butcher in the field is inexcusable.. Yet he's our SS!

I've seen enough of Tejada. He has become a butcher in the field; he cannot hit; and he just looks completely disinterested. There is no question that there should be a move made to upgrade, but I'm not sold that Alderson will do it. With that being said, the fascination & love affair with Nick Franklin needs to stop. I can guarantee you that 99% of MetsBlog readers don't know Franklin from a hole in the wall. We know of him what Cerrone has written about him. Additionally, it is only an assumption that Franklin is available. The assumption is that because Franklin played 2B last year & that the M's signed Cano that he is available. The assumption is supported by the M's having a better prospect at SS blocking Franklin. However, he is not projected as only a middle infielder; his scouting report says he could play the OF, too, and the M's have a need in the OF. The M's aren't just going to give away Franklin, a 1st round pick in 2009, for a prospect or two that as Mets fans we view a lot more favorably than other teams do. They're not going to just take the guys we are willing to part with. They're not going to just take deGrom & Leathersitch; they're going to want Montero & Flores, for starters. They would also be well within their rights to ask for Brandon Nimmo, another player Mets fans don't want to give up. Quality SS's are hard to come by today & quality SS's under team control are even rarer, which the M's know. If Franklin is available, other teams will be asking about him, too. Just because the Mets have a need & the M's have a middle infielder (who played only 20 games at SS) doesn't mean they are destined to make a deal. The bottom line is that Franklin is a .289 career minor league hitter & he is an average defensive infielder. The Mets are a team built on their starting pitching & to maximize that asset, you need strong defense up the middle. Franklin doesn't project to provide that defense & he is a complete unknown offensively. The asking price for him seems to be a little too steep when it appears that he would be lucky to become the player that Stephen Drew has already proven himself to be. I would much rather take Drew, his very good defense, and expected above-average offensive production for just money, even if it is overpaying him, & a worthless 3rd round pick than I would rather give up a few prospects for an unknown in Franklin. The Mets are going to overpay for a SS in either terms of money (Drew) or prospects (Franklin) because of the dearth of talent at the position. Drew is a proven commodity & he would be much more valuable for the Mets at 2 years, $20-$25 million than he would be to many other teams. I know everyone lives the idea of getting that young guy & watching him flourish, but it is much more prudent to invest in a known commodity than it is to risk important future pieces on a current unknown.

Nice inning, Ruben! really hate to ever root against any player on this team, but the worse he plays in spring, the better the chances we see someone else out there opening day.

Ruben Tejada messing up on defense and it leads to runs? Tell me where I've heard this before

JOHN CAPONE
JOHN CAPONE

Tejada is the worst possible option at SS! He is a terrible hitter, with no pop. He has no range, no arm and a zero baseball IQ. They give the job every season, and every season he come to the ball park out of shape, and with a lack luster attitude. You can't tell me that anyone of our minor leaguers isn't a better option!

Anthony seratelli should be the starter, he from the area and he's Italian

@Mike Dell Italia Problem is that we have about 12 position players that should probably be on the bench or in the stands.

@Brent Moody  Did last time I saw him pitch too (I believe the first game of the spring). Know it's early in the spring, but from what I've seen so far, I can't help but think that Montero could do more to help the Mets win as the fifth starter than Dice-K or Lannan. It's a shame the Mets don't seem to be giving him an equal chance to earn the spot.

@Thomas McKeever @72tilltc  Lagares would have prevented 2 runs today. We are stuck with C. Young contract because the genius Sandy has shown the ability to let bad contracts expire.

@helloboy @Mike Dell Italia31 yo career minor leaguer. No thanks I'll take Flores or better yet Drew

Thomas McKeever

@Brent Moody @Thomas McKeever@72tilltcfrom what I hear ( i dont check ST stats), he looks better at the plate and is in much better shape (stronger).  I honestly like his bat over EYJ's.  And he HAS the speed to steal bases, he just needs to get his reps in.  Also, flores should play at SS for the rest of ST-tejada is garbage
