Is there a reason why Recker isn't the starting catcher?

d'arnaud is averaging an RBI every 18 at bats in the MLs. An RBI every 9 ABs is terrible. And that includes his meaningless 3-run homer in the 9th inning of a lost game.

Take the blinders off folks.

Good thing the Braves are struggling....sure the mets could have been in 1st but hey hopefully we got the losing streak out the way and we get back to winning 7 out of 10 games.....mets are only 1 game out....hopefully the mets can stay within striking distance...I'm still happy with how the team is playing...Lagares is a beast

PIITB! Glad to get the HELL out of Denver! Let's sweep the next series and make some hay while the Braves are struggling!

Pitching is the name of the game people, glad to see our staff is good enough to stop these skids from becoming huge skids

At least we salvaged one game..this place is absolute hell for us since 07 we

Are 9-29...lucky for us everyone in our division struggled this week and now we are 16-14 and one game out of first

Gary is making a great point. All the Rockies spend about 30 seconds between pitches. It's absurd. To counter that, opposing pitchers should work quickly and talk to the umpires before hand about speeding it up. No one needs that long between every single pitch.

Sign Gee now, before he gets expensive, like you did with Niese. Top 6 pitcher in NL last 12 months.

The thought today is that pitchers have to throw 95+ with a filthy secondary pitch to be considered an ace. I think gee is proving that's just not true..throwing 90-92 is plenty hard enough especially if you can locate with 3-4 pitches and not walk anyone

@jenkins As a Mets fan, you should be hoping that TDA can play to his expectation and that we have a long term catcher that is above average. Give him a chance. It's too early to make any assessment about his ability or lack thereof. Recker is good but he is  just a back up catcher and not a long term solution.

@jenkins

Nah id rather not to jump to conclusions about a kid who is basically in his 1st big league season being a bust because he didn't hit .400 in april and have 50 rbis. Now if hes still struggling later on in the year and into the next with no improvement then I will begin to think of him as a bust. Lest we forget, Mike Jacobs started out setting the world on the fire.. where is he now?

@jenkins  Receker will be the everyday catcher come June 1.  should probably happen sooner, but it will happen nonetheless.

@Chris Lyons  this stadium plays against all our strengths.  i dread it more than anything, at least its over the year and we are still above .500.  we  now get ready to pay in more even stadiums for a while

I'm sure Gee can't wait to sign an inexpensive contract and give up Free agency. You should try to think a little before you post. Its not all about what the Mets want.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@eric88 So he has value. You don't have to give him away the Mets can get a nice return. Plus the Mets are never going to want to pay this guy as it comes time for his salary to skyrocket especially with all the young arms they have

Chris Lyons
Chris Lyons

He does not have the mental make up to be a closer..at least not yet

I like Recker as a backup, but what has Recker ever done that makes you think he can catch everyday? He's 30 year's old without much of a resume. Give the kid a chance.

Bullpen.

Steven Glansberg

@jlga  You're not looking for average with granderson, you're looking for run production, so that's a silly stat

jlga
jlga

Why should anyone think Granderson will hit? He's good for .230 at best.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@Steven Glansberg @jlga Did you feel the same way about Jason Bay that he would eventually hit? And who's to say TDA will even be able to hit .250 with a bunch of XBHs?

Steven Glansberg
Steven Glansberg

@jlga  I feel like this team will find a closer by the end of the year from one of the AAA arms.. hopefully im right

jlga
jlga

I know, but the bullpen can cost you more games. And this team hasn't had a solid closer since Billy Wagner.

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@Steven Glansberg @jlga Grandy is still hitting .170 and TDA .200

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@Chris Lyons Dice K is just learning now to transition to the pen so we shall see. He's definitely next man up to me though not really a long term solution

Brian Webster
Brian Webster

@manchu @Chris Lyons He's starting right now and that's where he's openly said he wants to be. It hasn't worked out well in the past with him in the pen and perhaps that's partly because he doesn't want to be there. Although it's looking to me more and more like that might be where he belongs especially with all the young SPs that are getting ready for the call up
