Campbell hitting .500 as a PH and Abreu 0 for his last 18 pinch hitting, EY hitting .200 PHing and CY is at .143, why can't a guy hitting .340, 45 points higher the Murphy, get some more freakin ABs and then TC says he starts Abreu to get him ready to DH, why is the guy still coaching.

On the post game show they were paying homage to Rueban for handling a one hopper right to him earlier in the game!. I guess they know if a ball is hit semi hard 7 feet to his right or left he goes to the ground due to NO RANGE.

How bad must Wilmer Flores be on the ML level if Sandy would rather carry 6 OF'ers instead of bring him up to "rake" in Queens?

C.K. Dexter Haven

How is it possible, that this Mets team that has been STARVED for offense all season could keep a superior talent such as Flores in AAA?  where he's "raking"?   For all this mob mentality bullshtt rhetoric spit about Tejada everyday (he's 5'4" and 215 lbs???  really??), here's the simple truth:

Flores has proved NOTHING to the decision makers at the ML level,  to warrant them promoting and playing him at the ML level every day.  But hey, he's "raking in Vegas"....so he's got that going for him.

The one move i would have made was in the 7th inning when the Mets had the bases loaded. Did they not have soup on the bench? I would have batted him in place of Ruben in that spot. Although it did not matter because the tied it in the 8th but why not let soup get at least one bat in considering he has been good coming off the bench thus far.?

This was a funny way to lose, never saw tht before

You win Double...i'll take the bait....

For all you Wilmer "lovers" what does it say to you that Sandy and the Mets who have been trying to sell us this BS about 90 wins all season, don't feel that the guy "raking in AAA" represents a GOOD ENOUGH upgrade over Tejada at SS to help the team get to those 90 wins?

If Terry Collins had tried to take Nolan Ryan out of that game in the 7th, Nolan would have hit Terry with a shovel.  No reason to take Wheeler our of a pitcher's duel.

I see Dexter split right after the game.  Way to stand up for your guy Tejada, Dex.

If George Steinbrenner owned the Mets after seeing that disaster, he would call Josh Edgin a "Fat Toad"

TheRealSayHey24
TheRealSayHey24

Let's face it - a pathetic play by Edgin.  He did not leave himself in a good position to field a ball which was very routine.  Add to that, that he is very overweight.  Made a fool of himself - and lost the game for the mets.

Just play Flores and Campbell everyday. The season is a wash. What is the point of having prospects if u don't play them everyday in a sotuation like this? The only way prospects get better is by playing everyday. But noooooo, we have to strive for 75 wins

that was the worst game ending play since castillo dropped that pop up to the Yankees.

@semperfi he is still coaching because upper management knows the team is a losing team. regardless of the manager. that's just my opinion

@eric88 Did you see the play?  It was a one hope smash.  Now, most SOLID SS make the play, but don't paint it as if it were an easy 2 hopper.   The mob mentality on this board is amazing....

@C.K. Dexter Haven If he had played each game since opening day he would now be our clean up hitter  with good numbers.

@C.K. Dexter Haven as far as flores is concerned. he isn't capable of being a quality defensive shortstop. shortstop is a position where you need defense more than anything else. i understand that tejada can't hit at all, but the bigger picture is that there is not one major league shortstop in the entire organization. that's why management puts tejada out there. bc at least he is defensively capable untill they find a solution at that position.

Only on MetsBlog can a game the team lost because Josh Edgin tripped at a key moment be further evidence that Wilmer Flores should be playing shortstop.  Wilmer "raking in Vegas" Flores can also cure cancer and end world hunger, by the way. In case you didn't know.

What does Edgin's error say about Edgin, MetsBlog?  Oh yeah, he's fat. He and Tejada.  Those are the reasons we lost the game today, because Josh Edgin and Rueben Tejada are fatties and Wilmer Flores isn't playing every day in the majors. Oh, yeah, and something about Terry Collins giving bad press conferences or something.

tejada better off gettin up to hit with an ice cream cone

@Nolan McShea in my opinion, the bigger picture is this. the mets management strategy is to maximize every players trade value however they can. they choose this strategy because they are not willing to spend money and increase payroll. for example, campbell's average is high and they want it to stay that way even if it means not playing him everyday. they think if they play him everyday his average will drop. same thing with flores, he is in AAA where he can crush the ball. d'arnaud on the other hand is a player the mets believe in, hence that's why he is playing everyday.

@Nolan McShea  They don't want to pinch hit for Tejada because they don't have a legitimate back up shortstop.  It's ridiculous already.  Get rid of one of the outfielders (CY or EY) and put somebody on the team that can play SS.  Second game in a row they're in a situation where Tejada should have been pinch hit for.  No team needs 6 outfielders on its roster.

Hate to say it, but typical Mets.

bbr7
bbr7

@brrrandooo agreed. seen my share of mets losses over the years and never saw one like this. it's amazing. they invent new ways to lose and new ways to embarass their fans

bbr7
bbr7

@C.K. Dexter Haven there is no chance of 90 wins. never was a chance to begin with. he is raking in AAA for a reason. his trade value increases when he is there. the reason he isn't on the major league club is because flores is not in the mets long term or short term plans

It tells me Sandy has given up on 90 wins, and is trying to build up Flores' trade value.

Doubleday
Doubleday

@C.K. Dexter Haven Sandy had no choice but to play Tejada, after the way he badmouthed Ruben to anyone who would listen, all winter, or he would never have any hope of ever trading him.  That doesn't mean Tejada is the answer.

In a perfect world (even normal world) yes but they are already taking into account inning/pitch limit with Wheeler. If he busts out with TJ (which by the way I think is in very near future) having him iced one year after Harvey will draw untold heat. Given his mechanics, I would place more money on Wheeler facing TJ by the end if this year than making playoffs. He is already cinsidered high risk for mechanics that they don't want to draw heat for running up pitch counts or innings

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Doubleday Wasn't aware i needed to stand up for him?  I figured the fact that Wilmer was "raking" in AAA instead of taking Tejada's spot was proof enough of what the Mets think of Willmer playing SS on the ML level...

bbr7

@tullydew if george steinbrenner owned the mets there would never be such a disaster. steinbrenner had pride and passion, a real baseball guy. wilpons indifference is bewildering.

bbr7

@tonyny we lost the game bc we're a bad team. there's not much else to it. we lost a three game series to a team that literally one of the worst offensive teams in all of baseball history.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Doubleday By the way..."the answer"...to what?  He's a solid ML SS.  What else do the Mets need if Wright, Murph, Duda, Grandy and TDA are hitting the way they showed before the ASB?

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@Doubleday First off, he's been bad mouthing Tejada for the better part of 18 months now.  And all of you just EAT it up, because he doesn't hit for power.  Secondly...What?  He could've cut Ruben ANY TIME HE WANTED to.  There are PLENTY of  FA SS's out there right now.  Ruben's making a touch over $1Mil.  What would it really cost to sign Izturis to a minor league deal and cut Tejada?  Maybe there is some actual value in a .289  26 double season?

bbr7

@joe21 i agree wheeler should of been taken out. there's no reason at all to leave him out there. this season is essentially over. you have to look to next year. he is a young pitcher and even if he is throwing good, essentially his effort doesn't really matter this year. You just want him to progress as a pitcher. as for tommy john, i disagree on that point. wheeler's motion is effortless. he doesn't overthrow the ball like harvey. if anything he will have knee problems later in his career due to his huge lunge towards the plate

mrfurley
mrfurley

which is why they should do it....i bet more people go to games if u started playing their "prospects"

Richard Davis

@C.K. Dexter Haven @eric88  Yeah, the game is meant to be played on one good wheel.  To most of us with eyesight, he clearly belonged on the DL rather than on the field.  But I guess that shouldn't matter.

tonyny

@C.K. Dexter Haven Save your breath, Dex. The Flores Is God Club clearly has some kind of magic crystal ball at their disposal that flies in the face of conventional wisdom, expert opinion, and all facts in evidence in making it clear that Wilmer Flores would be on his way to the Hall Of Fame right now if they only brought him up and punished Tejada for... um, I dunno, being fat, I guess.

joe21

Inverted W is considered high risk. Many disagree, but coaches try to get rid of because of suspected contribution to TJ

@kefhrny17 yeah definitely agree. without beltran we wouldn't have even got to that far. wright let us down that year
