Somewhere in the off-season, David Wright became Daniel Murphy, at least at the plate. This is hugely concerning, as the Mets paid huge bucks for what is ostensibly a decent glove/decent OBP and no power; the Mets paid for 25/100 a year and they'll be lucky to get 15/75. And that's our big bat?

I understand the argument about him not being surrounded by other big bats, but he's shown time and again that he has what amounts to "warning track power". It's not that he's not putting the ball in play - he just doesn't have the power to scare pitchers anymore.

The Mets need a Stanton/Goldschmidt/Harper type bat - one that strikes fear into opposing pitchers just at the site of them in the on-deck circle. Right now, we have a lineup full of guys that should make about 1.5 mill a year. Max.

I remember the power of Darryl, of King Kong, of Piazza and Beltran. How nice it would be to have just one bat like that again.

Wright ain't it.

How many runs have we scored in the last 18 innings?..0

Sandy you signed the wrong Abreu...

Hey Sandy, do you like our "approach" at the plate????

It isn't like this is a big surprise  signing Young and Grandy 2 low avg hitters ...but I thought maybe just maybe we could win 80 games..but with this team more like 70 wins.

I hate to say it but Francessa was right when he went off on the Monday night loss.  That kind of loss after the Colorado nightmare had the potential to crush the team.  And it did.  They look like they are already in Mets August mode -- just going through the motions.  And it's MAY!

Sign the petition...what a joke! Have fun coming home to an empty stadium. U give us nothing ownership, we give u nothing......i believe our AAA team would smash this group of ny mess!

Pathetic...this team is what we thought they were! They should be ashamed of themselves. No Fernadez and they can't score???? It takes us 6 years to rebuild and we still stink, yet the Marlins do it in 1 year!!!!

Jose Abreau = 12 HRs ... Mets passed on him, with little consideration ever given.

Today's Mets starting lineup = 14 HRs.

Mets have no one that scares a pitcher, and even with fantastic starting pitching, the bullpen assuredly guarantees a rough ending to any game.

Really want this team to turn the corner, but struggling to find the long-term viability of success here. Hope they surprise me ... LGM?

I really wish I could quit watching/following this team.  It's a horrible attachment.  That being said, bring on the Phillies.

Normally Lagares throws him out by 10 ft.  It was a bad throw, bounced three times and 5 feet up the line.  Can't blame Farnsworth for that, it was a shallow fly ball that Stanton never should have scored on.

Think I'm the first person to bring this up but, what's going on with David wright? It's like his power is nonexistent. 1 home run through 33 games, and you hit the first one opening day (another game we should have one!)? There should be at least a little concern

Just can't have a ML team look like this at the plate. Wilpons should be pummelled or fans should strike home games.

@kefhrny17 Really? What exactly have the Marlins done since 06? They are off to a decent start, but they're still only 4 games over .500 after 34 games. The Mets were 4 games over .500 last week and no one was saying how far they had come.

@metdrama I was one of the fans that wanted to trade Wright when Dickey was traded ..but in here there might be too much sentimental reasons not to trade him...sure we could have received at least 2 very good prospects for him and let Flores play 3rd.. and saved money.Hate to say it but not trading him may have been a big mistake.

@fatherflot  Francessa in the earlier years was harder on the Mets than he's been in the last couple. As a matter of fact he's been a little to nice when he has Sandy on the line. I don't think his opinions are so negatively biased now and besides if he says the Mets are awful, would you argue?

@adam  Fernandez would have thrown a no-hitter against us. At least we didn't have to go through that.

@Peter Loibl  100% the reason why pitchers like Alvarez and whoever the hell was on the mound tonight can have games like the way they did. We do not have ANYONE that makes a pitcher second guess his pitches. When pitchers second guess, they make mistakes. No one is second guessing this lineup right now

@Peter Loibl Good point...it was ignorant not to try to sign him..but remember Jeffy said ''we already have 3 1st baseman.''

Pete Brilvitch
Pete Brilvitch

@Aizaz Siddiqui I don't think it's really that big of a concern. I think he'll hit for power eventually. The problem is they are not getting power out of anyone right now. A team that strikes out a lot at generally hits for power. Unless they run into bad pitching, the offense has little chance for success.

@Aizaz Siddiqui  David Wright cannot and will not take PEDS to keep his strength to hit HR's all year long. He  was a 30 hr guy and cant lift or workout the way he used to. Whether  that is due to Peds or youth i dont know but he clearly cant wait on the ball and hit it out he starts his swing early and is vulnerable.

@Imme They are definitely tough to watch right now. Like a car wreck, it's tough to look away.

Maybe but only time will tell. He was sick for over a week. We don't know with what or how bad but Rockies just sent 2 guys to 15 day DL with virus. Could be weather- wind and cold rain at many Citifield games. Could be a fluke. Cano has only 1 HR and Miggy who is a true, beastly power hitter just got #3. Wright does seem to be driving ball better of late. More 2B in May than he has all of April. Just gotta believe!

Agree force them to sell.

@Bob G @fatherflot  I agree.  You can tell that he truly feels bad for Mets fans and is deeply concerned about the franchise's drift into irrelevance.  He's a big New York booster and I think it hurts his pride to see the NY national league entry in this condition.  He definitely feels that Mets fans have suffered enough and deserve better.

I think perhaps the back injury coupled with age has changed what he can do. He said that he changed his off season routine- less weights and strength training more flexibility drills. Also he was never a good pull hitter. His power was to opposite field. Citifield has muted that and with everyone pounding him in, not much chance for him to go opposite field anyway. I would rather he focus on making contact, line drives, doubles that drive in runs. Look at how successful MCGehee is and he's "protecting Stanton"!!

Aizaz Siddiqui
Aizaz Siddiqui

@72tilltc @Aizaz Siddiqui  PED's is old news. Jose Bautista is a twig and can hit the ball 420 + ft easy. It's about getting the ball to hit the barrel of the bat. The mets dont have players who are doing that at all right now. I mean come on... youre telling me he hasnt squared one up and lifted a pitch in 34 games??

Tormented Mets Fan
Tormented Mets Fan

I wouldn't say he's not good, he's still hitting for contact but power has just crashed

fatherflot
fatherflot

@BringBackDaveTelghe @Bob G @fatherflot  True.  He has a complete inability to be objective when it comes to the Giants.  Yes, he's a Yankees fan, but with the Giants it's much deeper and more personal, like some kind of "family honor" deal.  He acts like he's offended by the existence of the Jets.  How dare they presume to field a team in the Giants' market!!

72tilltc
72tilltc

@Aizaz Siddiqui @72tilltc  i am saying he doesnt have the ability to turn on a ball without starting his swing early reducing him to a guess hitter. That is why he takes so many pitches he guesses wrong a lot.
