Odd how this blog has Mejia as an automatic write-in while Matsusaka is short of brilliant and the yahoos take a vow of silence about his performance. Typical.

Breaking news according to MLB network Mets choose Mejia over Dice K for 5ht spot!

TC just sits on his ass looks like he likes losing I mean man get in your players face motivate them or something man SMH the offense was dead

Can we stop calling it a 1st base competition?

Man, Dice K's pitches looked pretty.  Life on his fastball, his cut looked good and his curve looked beautiful.  With the way he has looked when the competition heated up between him and mejia, both answered the bell.  In this case, I wouldn't mind mejia being down there for the month so that we can keep him an extra year away from arbitration.  100,000 to dice k is exponentially cheaper than what mejia is looking like per year.  Mejia is looking great!  I hope he comes back from his elbow bruise without missing any time.

Bring Backman up! Fire the fool Collins

I think the Expos have a better chance of scoring today than our beloved Mets,

can i ask why Granderson doesn't just bunt one down the 3rd base line, or choke up and poke a swinging bunt against the shift? i know he's not here to bunt, but wouldn't that lead teams to call off the shift which would open up some holes for him?...or am I oversimplifying things?

I think they should fire Collins, This team just doesn't play hard for him and he doesnt take the best out of his players

The offense is none existent I see

to be fair its not like they're whiffing at hanging breakers and stright down the pipe fastballs. the pitching has simply been too good...change of speeds, movement and location. the pitchers are doing it all today

I wish the game was as exciting as the comments about how bad the game and announcers are.

d'arnaud looks masterful behind the plate.  The way he calls the game, the way he sets up for each pitch, his defense.  Ah man if he can hit.  He is going to be the best all around Catcher we had.  That is saying a lot.  But his defense and the way he calls the game is so far the best I've seen.  Much respect to Carter but I was 10 when he left so I can't recall too much of his defense.  The way d'arnaud set up colby in the 5th was beautiful.  He stood up the last sec to give colby a different eye view and called a hook to strike him out.  Kudos to Dice K.

Lagares on the bench. I don't understand it.

(Except maybe for the Montreal turf. If that's the reason, it's a fair one. But still, two days from Opening Day and he's sitting?)

Seattle announced its player cuts this morning, Nick Franklin was one of them, he ended up batting  .265, a lot better than Tejada's pathetic .196 maybe Alderson can get off his rear and make a deal...i know, fat chance!

What's particularly disturbing about this game is the sheer number of Expos fans - a team that doesn't exist - in attendance.  They seem to be really enjoying themselves.  They may be having more fun this weekend than most Met fans can expect to have all season.

the positive of today, Dice-K.

Yeah, no doubt TC should do a war-dance in front of the dugout to get the offense going. Or maybe he should invade Russia. Yup, that'll get them them going. Just brilliant.

@ponzies86

Even though it is by no-name pitchers who won't be in the majors, TC should've showed prowess and put in his regular relievers just because. Man TC is horrid.

Mets finished 29th out of 30 teams last yr in BA. Pretty easy to think this one through.

Ha ha, yea the '94 team.  Bring em all back and they'll out score the current Mets.  I hate to say it Duda and Ike look like duds. Ike needs a change of scenery, and Duda needs a shrink.

@ponzies86  that's just not true. i'm not the biggest Collins fan, but even these crappy Mets teams over the years have shown fight in coming back in games. it's not lack of effort, it's from lack of (overall) talent.

Fire TC and Alderson. Promote Ike to mgr and Duda to GM. Tejada to lead scout. Can't hurt.

You may be right, but they made Brandon Marrow who has an ERA this SPR of over 9 look like a Cy young award winner.  It seems like every Met this series has popped the ball up so high, that they could have tapped the top of the dome.  Hudgins should be accountable for their hitting, especially in these two games.  Uh Ike is up, I was just going to say what horrible stance is he going to display now, but he just swung at the first pitch, as did every met in this game. Absolutely disgraceful.  Damn! I hope they don't do this come Mon.

@Muhammad Qureshi  he does look good back there, but he  needs to tuck that right hand behind his back. he's just asking to get hit with a foul tip and end up on the DL with another "freak" injury.

I think TC is gunning for a platoon situation in CF.  Legares is the the opening day starter but EY will get a 3rd of the starts there because of his speed and leadoff status.  I would love to see both in the lineup every day.  EY at 2nd and Murph at 1st.  Duda and Ike do not look like they deserve it.  Albeit I'm dvr'ing this game and am in the bot 6th.  I hope after I type this, both Duda and Ike hit bombers that hit the top of the Olympic dome.

I want to see anybody but Tejada there at SS.  Maybe now that he was demoted, Mariners may come down on their asking price.  However, TIgers are still very interested in Franklin.  He has had a good Spr training.

@Wayno But this is your great opening day line up, i wouldnt be surprised if we werent swept by the Nats!
 Great job Sandy!

@Steven Matregrano @nymess  not trying to make it sound simple, but these guys are professional hitters after all. teams ask pitchers to stand in there and place a bunt to a desired spot, it shouldn't be an impossible task to attempt for a guy who makes a living with the bat in his hands.

i think it's a pride thing. even if you are not successful, i'm almost certain teams would call off the shift against someone who is willing to lay one down that left side for a single.

That's so true.  He tucks his hand behind his back only about 20% of the time.  He's going to learn the hard way.  I just hope when he does learn, it's not a dl stint for too long.  I remember Piazza and Carter having there right hands behind their back each pitch.

@Irving A. Gonzalez Ramirez @MacacawitzLot's of rumors in Canada that they're trying to get one.  I hope so, it's an awesome place to go for a weekend trip.  Especially if you're a hockey fan too.  You can do baseball and the playoffs on a Saturday.  Then go out to some of the best night life in North America.
