2 or 3 weeks ago Cerrone was lumping Black in with Harvey, Wheeler and Syndergaard as one of the Mets untouchables.  Based on 17 IP at the end of the last year.

Now people are posting about how awful Black is based on 8 IP this spring.

Not sure which is more ridiculous.

When Vic Black pitches, the team should be allowed to have a guy backing up the catcher just for fairness.

Vic Black will bounce back, He is still young and did good last season when he came up. Im not ready to give up on him

Another great trade by Sandy what a judge of talent Byrd will yield 0000000.

Vic Black needs to go down to AAA.

Dice K will be our 5th starter.

For being so good a center fielder, its a pity Lagares don't hit at all, he is so fast at the ball in OF but cannot steal a base even with Thole catching. He definitely with Hairston and Duda at corners was needed and thrust in CF resulting in a good defender. Good as the best in both leagues. But if he is not going to hit over .275 is better he remains sitted.  With Granddy and Chris on the team now we don't need that much grand defender just someone who could catch the ball get on base and hit a little bit. EY is ok with me, cause he might not be as good a defender as Lagares but is what best fit for a leadoff hitter. He is not Ricky H. but in the Mets team is what best resembles one.

Shoulda gave colons 2 yr 20 mil to drew, we don't need colon what's so ever.

It's a little unconventional going with only one 2B isn't it?

If NL had the DH rule Mets would benefit from it BIG TIME this year with Ike and Duda

This inning is actually working out the exact way they draw it up.  A mix of small ball (bunt hit and Sac Fly) mixed in with a big double.

IDC wht happens today I still think Mejia deserves the 5th spot

So minus Dice-K, is this the lineup we are going to war with?  As the US Army used to say SNAFU and FUBAR !  SMH

I ultimately want Mejia over Dice K.  But if you select Dice K over Mejia (initially), then you dont lose Dice K.  If you select Mejia, then Dice K can walk.

Teams needs 7 starters over the course of a season, and I not saying Dice K is a stud, just that he could be useful.  So, sending down Mejia is annoying, but he will be back soon enough and then we dont lose Dice K as an asset.

The mets twitter just posted "Dice-KKK of to a quick start, he strikes out the side in the first inning" then deleted it.. This gets funnier and funnier by the day

@ponzies86  I agree.  He just needs to go to AAA to get his mind back.

@72tilltc  Byrd and Buck for Black and Herrera is a trade any Mets GM would make at that time, given the opportunity.

@72tilltc Seriously. You're judging the trade already. The guy has barely pitched in the majors.

@Ken Thall  I guess for now But I see Dice K getting knocked around once the season starts and giving up at least 4 runs a game

@Ken Thall  Murphy is a streak hitter, He'll have his moments then cool off then light it up again

Mejia for Franklin makes an awful lot of sense at this point.

@ponzies86  I agree.  Though both money for service time and the that they may want to keep Dice K around as insurance and giving him the spot for a while can accomplish both.

@Victor Triguero Victor I ve got to disagree with you, apparently ( and I said apparently cause ican't read your mind) you are taking into consideration only one fact, the jump on the ball , because Chris is an excellent outfileder with a gun as an arm probably as strong as Puig. so he can play CF in the absence of Lagares, but Eric Young can do many things needed as a leadoff hitter. And don't let last years number fools you Ey became regular with Mets last year so he could have a top ceeling batting leadoff and may get on a good .360 playing everyday. Those things I think EY can do as LO hitter I think Lagares will be limited doing ém.

@Victor Triguero  I think they have been pretty open about the fact that Lagares and EY will both see time.   Like it or not, you can expect both to have similar AB numbers.  Also expect both to be out there together from time to time also, especially against lefties.

@fourwedges Plus there's a service time Super 2 issue with Mejia. As Rubin points out on ESPN if Mets delay Mejia promotion by a month he could make $500K next season as opposed to possibly $3M if he's in the majors from the start.

@fourwedges  Matsuzaka has an opt-out clause if he isn't on the ML roster by May 30th.  I think the wisdom here is that you start Dice-K on the ML roster.  If he's light's out, obviously we keep him.  If he's serviceable, he could be traded.  But, if he stinks up the joint, he'll be released.  In any of these scenarios, Mejia gets the call.  This gives Jenry a chance to get better into the groove before he hits the ML roster.  Mejia did have bone chips removed from his elbow.  All that, plus, after the "Chinaman" fiasco, not carrying Matsuzaka on the initial ML roster would be a PR nightmare.  The last thing the Mets need is an Asian boycott of ticket sales. I am unsure if Matsuzaka loses his opt-out clause if he's been on the ML roster at all.  I think it's an important question.

@nymess @72tilltc  Of course Byrd was worthless on the trade market and they got equal value. My issue is all the Sandy Tuchas Lickers that praise the trade for the quality of the prospects.

@ponzies86 @Mike Dell Italia Yup. Best move by Sandy this offseason. Although I think Grandy is going to have a good year.

@ponzies86 @Ken Thal  In 2013, he had the second best offensive numbers of all NL 2B's.

ponzies86

@Ken Thall @ponzies86  ok I dont really see an up rise in his game, he is what he is and Ill take it but no way im banking on a break out year

ponzies86

@Ken Thall @ponzies86  Murph is too much of a streaky hitter to consider to have a "Bust out year" and his cold streak can last almost a month

helloboy

@Victor Triguero @Ken Thall @Steven Matregrano  EY is not the problem.  The problem is he is not as defensively dynamic as Lagares.  EY has value, but he should be a Pinch runner or guy off the bench.  Offensively, they are similar with EY having more speed.
