Jeurys Familia 2 (Baron)

Jeurys Familia gets in the game, and gets the win

22-year-old Mets reliever Jeurys Familia made his first appearance in a week and earned his first win of the season, throwing five pitches to three batters for a perfect ninth inning on Friday.

He had let up up six runs in six appearances with five walks and 10 hits entering Friday’s game.

April 25: There is nothing wrong with Familia, Terry Collins explained to reporters before Friday’s game.

“He is a spot guy we have to save,” he added. “He can give multiple innings. I have to get him in a game.”

I think Terry is waiting to use him when the mets are blowing out another team or being blown out. Famiglia may need som low-pressure confience building outings before The team can rely on him. I love the guy and he was nasty in spring training.

We won again tonight, Terry and the team are doing something right. I think we can pinch down the bitchiing and enjoy this good play.

Young pitching will be arriving n june, famglia will hopefully find his control and be a major piece for us.

There is certainly something wrong with him, he has major control problems.

There must be some 40ish has-been retread waiting on the scrap heap to get lit up that Collins would prefer to a young hard thrower. Someone needs to explain the term "youth movement" to Terry and Sandy.

Well, what's wrong with him is he sucks.  He should be back in the minors working out his control issues and either Montero or DeGrom should be up.

Does TC think we aren't wearing our super secret Red Rifle decoder rings?   Translation:   'I don't trust Jeurys.  In fact, the only situation I will pitch him in is if we are up a whole lot, or down a whole lot.  And that's only because i don't want to burn a position player as a pitcher'

TC..you do realize that while you have Familia on the 25 man and are waiting for this HIGHLY SPECIALIZED situation to pitch him in, you are burning up Torres and Rice.  Torres being your best first arm out of the pen, and Rice being your ONLY lefty.

Pitch him, send him down or DFA him, the choice is yours and Sandy's but this...is ridiculous.

No, you really don't  "have to get him in a game." Take your time.

"Nothing wrong"? I guess other than that he's not very good, sure, there's "nothing wrong."

Low K/9, low K/BB, high BB/9, high H/9, high WHIP, high ERA, high FIP - unless the porch light suddenly turns on, there's no point in keeping him on the roster - the numbers over the past few years say that everything is wrong with him.

Familia needs to be pitching somewhere. Unlike the rest of the bullpen, he will be here when this team is good, and I don't want him learning his craft then

There is something wrong. He can't throw strikes consistently making him undependable. He should be in the minors refining his mechanics not wasting away in the bullpen where he is not being developed.

SO basically, reporters just reminded TC that Familia is not in Vegas.

He belongs in the minors working on his command. Bring up Zach Thornton we got from Pittsburgh and see what he can do....

@rico  The nattering nabobs of negativism have to have something to vent about, and there's slim pickings with the Mets playing well. So they have to grasp the least little thing, in this case the use of a relief pitcher and the bullpen in general.

Preaching patience to this group - I'd have to preach patience to you because your pleas will fall on deaf ears. TC and DW are idiots that don't know a thing about baseball according to these geniuses - if they'd just listen to their suggestions the team would be more successful. Hey, I understand voicing opinions is what a blog is all about, but the absolute surety that posters have in their contrary opinions (e.g. "Worst. Bullpen. Management. Ever.") just boggles the mind. How is someone supposed to take a comment like that seriously? It's not criticism. It's just bald-faced venting and bitching with no basis in reality.

@Joe Wenzel  It almost feels like Terry doesn't even know that Familia is on the team until asked about him, to which Terry usually answers: "we have to try to get him into a game..."

@Joe Wenzel Absolutely agree. He has no problem pitching others pitchers EVERY night and running them into the ground, but with Familia, "we need to save him."

@Joe Wenzel Did you ever see Joe Torre manage a bullpen? Two or three guys overworked until their arms fell off, two or three never getting a chance to pitch. Sure, he had he greatest closer and an unlimited budget, but his bullpen management skills were a disgrace.

TC wouldn't have mentioned it except for the fact that the blog blew up AND it was glaringly obvious. Bring a young arm up from the minors and never use him. Just dumb!

@mets2891  Agree but Vic Black should be called up 1st & Zack Thornton who they just got for Ike after that before they try to transition 1 of their SPs

@C.K. Dexter Haven  Do expect anything different?  TC is a dope.  And it shows most clearly when it comes to managing a pen.

I guess winning those 4 WS made it worthwhile

@Max Denby  I don't typically beat TC up because IMO he has 1 of the top 5 toughest manager jobs in the MLB.  But anyone paying any real attention can see that at this pace Torres (especially) and Rice are going to be burnt out by ASB.  Meanwhile, he's not using 1 of his 7 RPs available waiting for some fictitious "spot" to pitch him in?

Hahaha, thought the same thing! TC his Mets Blog before all his interviews!
