Jordany Valdespin, Mike Wall

There is interest in Jordany Valdespin

Jordany Valedespin is drawing interest from at least four teams, while playing in the Dominican Winter League (Cotillo, Dec. 16).

The Mets non-tendered the controversial Valdespin in early December, which made him a free agent.

“He has got his act together and is working hard to make a difference on the field, for whoever signs him,” a source said (Cotillo, Dec. 16).

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

Well, I think it’s safe to assume the Mets are not one of the four teams. It’s hard to imagine someone doing what he did — melting down in front of the GM and manager, cursing everyone out, being demoted and suspended — and finding his way back to their big-league clubhouse, especially considering he hit just .188 while in uniform. But, I guess crazier things have happened in baseball. I wish him well. He’s a talented kid. I hope he finds his way, I just doubt it will be in Queens…

You just know there is a GM out there somewhere who likes the guy's 'fire.'  He did have his moments as a pinch-hitter but never really did anything as an everyday player. Take a used Juggs gun and bid him a fond farewell.

This guy can be really good if he starts acting like a team player.

Where are all the assbags now that swore Valdespin was the 2nd coming of Albert Pujols?

where is shinjo seeing as he was the one who knew this a year ago while all you guys were clamoring for him to start and collins was just trying to keep down the man

This is another side effect of losing Reyes.  Valdy looked up to Jose, and perhaps Jose could have kept him in line.  Now we'll never know.

I remember when Jose was young, the articles about him following Pedro Martinez around, and even dressing like him.

With Collins, you're either old school or you have no place.  That has its advantages, but there are other ways to bring along talent.  Perhaps Valdespin will find a place where he fits and his talent shines.  Personally, I'd be happy to see that, as long as it's out of the NL East.

Can't have a guy around who is universally disliked by everyone else on the roster. Valdespin did not have enough talent to allow the organization to simply look the other way.

I don't want to see him on the Mets again -- but it's really sad that he was such a baby about his career, since if he had been able to harness the talent he has, the skills he showed (speed, pop) would have been a nice fit at the top of the lineup.

I'd rather hear comments on the Yanks signing Brian Roberts.  Say what you will but the Yankees are on top of things while the Mets debate about Davis & Duda, trading Murphy and all the young, basically unproven arms in the bullpen and do very little.  You have glaring holes at several positions and basically no backups should anyone get hurt.

I think he is still one of those players we wish we didn't let go. I was always a fan of his from the start. The only player on this roster worth watching.

He's going to have a very good career in Japan.

Vlady is a guy teams should take a shot at if they literally have nothing better to do.  You can't tell me he has is act together because a guy like that never will.  If he's doing well in winter ball thats to be expected because he's a AAAA player.

Of course, Valdespin was on nobody's minds until this post, and now everyone freaks out thinking he's going to be the next Heath Bell. Did you guys watch him at the plate last year? Guy swings at everything. That plus his attitude makes me not worried one bit.

So how do you think Bartolo will fare this year? 40 year olds very rarely have great back to back years, and Colon will have the additional burden of running the bases. That is not a good thing for his legs at his size. I am afraid that we won't get 20 games from him.

He has physical talent but is extremely immature. I don't care if a guy is cocky, but immaturity will keep a player from reaching his potential. Someone will pick him up, but unless Jordany has a change of heart, he will never succeed in the bigs because no team will give him the chance.

That said, I wish him well because everyone deserves a chance to grow up and succeed.

Terry and Sandy are anti show-offs regardless of how talented they are (e.g. Reyes, Pagan, Valdespin). So don't worry. He will not be back with the Mets.
We probably won't see any more excitement from this team until Wally becomes the manager.

No matter what team ends up taking him, Terry Collins fully plans on calling the Pirates, in April, to ask them to throw at Jordany.

watch the guy turn out to be a very good hitter, better than CHRIS YOUNG.........LOL

the mets are the problem as much as valdespin.

if he has talent, he'll get a job.  he does have talent, and you're worried about him shoving that opportunity in the mets faces, which is why you're pre-apologizing for the mets cutting him.

remember heath bell?  the mets jerked him around too and he ripped the mets management for not getting a fair shake.  the mets just were more professional and didn't shame players in the press back then.

No way he can come back to the Mets after what he did in the clubhouse last year.  I think he burned his bridge with his teammates and coaches quite thoroughly.

He does have some talent and I think he can be a productive player in the majors - I just don't think you can suppress that type of behavior forever.

You guys are so wrong.

There are so many jerks out there. I mean, KRod beat up his father in law and got a multi-million dollar deal. In the NBA, Ron Artest and Spreewell both had long careers after melting down. If he had been playing in city that didnt feature the TMZ style sports media that we have here in NYC I doubt we would have ever heard of it.

Spin was not good when he was called up... but guess what... he was always in our top 10 prospect lists (which, yes, were not as full of talent as they are now) and was a pretty good player in the minors.

This high horse you all sit on is hilarious. Especially considering the vitriol of many of the comments on here on a daily basis (I would bet that much worse has been said about 'Spin here then he ever said about TC).

Get over yourselves.

@Sentimental SteveThe ass-bags are on the other blogs, spewing hate and slander as usual.
Leave it to them to love the most hated man on the team.

@Sentimental SteveJV is better than any middle infielder on this roster the fact is the only ass bags are the prejudice people and idiotic manager who spews nonsense regarding knowing how to play and how to be a big leaguer. This coming from a manager whose team steals third with 2 out on a regular basis and crashes into each other on routine pop ups. Fundamentals hahahahahah how was the bunting by pitchers. JV will make a difference while your fav Justin Turner will not have a job.

@ken1010Jose Reyes had his own discipline issues. However he was talented enough that the organization could look the other way. Valdespin does not have that kind of talent and his behavioral issues are far more of a negative.

@mrdickey@Ron DavisThe more talent you have the more rope you get. JV used up his rope before his talent.  Ike has a little rope left.

@Pedro's Rooster @bromancer @Erin II Somehow, the Wilpons manage to screw up everything they touch, and this site is no exception. The fact is, as you and others have pointed out, the alternatives are lacking in their own ways. Hopefully, some other site siezes the opportunity...

Haven't spent much time shopping, but, as Erin II points out, Real Dirty has Disqus, but little traffic, so MMO gets the nod. Not sure, but I may be more inclined to try and help Real Dirty; I've read some compelling pieces there, and if MMO goes the Disqus route, I can reconsider.

I do think I'll still come back here at times, though, to rage against the dysfunctional machine.

@Agee's Catch@mrdickey@Ron Davis On point, sir. It will be interesting to see who gives 'the Man' a minor league deal. Probably a club that has a resource for a full-time baby sitter. I hope he can turn a personal corner and make it, but there is no way that this team can back pedal and give him another chance. Too much luggage.
