The return of Royce Ring

The Mets hired former pitcher Royce Ring to be the pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Mets (ESPN, May 6).

Ring was acquired by the Mets from the White Sox for 2B Roberto Alomar.

He made 26 appearances, but was later traded with Heath Bell to the Padres for pitcher Jon Adkins and OF Ben Johnson in 2006.

Make him the Mets' manager. Anything would be better than this.

I loved that they traded Ring and Bell together.  That trade to the Padres was about as bad a trade as the Mets ever made.  Come to think of it, they've had quite a few clunkers over the years.

Jeez. For a second I thought they signed him to help out with our bullpen woes or something, lol.

I don't know what's the most depressing part of this....the mention of Roberto Alomar, Royce Ring never panning out, or the fact the Mets gave away Bell for nothing.

That was one clunker of a trade. Adkins and Johnson made no impact and Bell became a quality reliever with the Padres. And with those 2007 and 2008 Mets teams' problems in the pen, they could have used Bell.

Ring was a lefty. Think this is a pic of Heath Bell. Ahhh...Metsblog.

@Andrew Sodergren  Except that Bell wasn't good when he was with the Mets, so you can imagine how popular he must have been on this blog.

@Andrew Sodergren Ring wasn't on the roster long enough for a photo to be taken, so a picture of Heath Bell is the closest thing there is.

@nwmets @Andrew SodergrenI always thought Bell had potential. They didn't really like him and they used him basically as the mop up guy. But Adkins had nothing and Johnson was a AAAA outfielder. Bell threw upper 90s with a good breaking ball. Bad bad trade.

Classic Metsblog.  Remember once they had a post about Dom Smith (who is black) and they posted a picture of a white guy.
