The Boston Herald is reporting that the Red Sox have been trying to acquire Chris Capuano from the Mets, “according to a source with knowledge of the talks.”
However, it appears the Mets will keep Capuano, they say.
All signs have pointed to the Mets working to re-sign Capuano this off season, as he can be either a starting pitcher or reliever next year. At this point, he wouldn’t be eligible for Boston’s post-season roster, and so they’re probably not offering much. I’m guessing it’s a straight cash-for-player type move, covering his remaining salary. If that’s the case, and if the Mets are considering bringing him back, it makes more sense to just keep things as is…
Capuano is 11-12 with a 4.47 ERA in 175 innings, spanning 31 games, this season.
