The Mets outfield hit well… in Colorado

The last four days at Coors Field, Curtis Granderson, Juan Lagares and Chris Young combined to hit .403 with five RBI.

“They’re producing, for sure,” David Wright said (ESPN, May 2). “They played good defense all year, but for them to swing the bats the way that they’re swinging it, it makes our offense completely different as far as the dynamic.”

Mets need a Piazza type plopped in the middle of their lineup and get Wright out of that three hole

"Completely different" as in EXISTING.

Lagares has been hitting everywhere.

Degrom and neise paired with a player like Cory Vaughn = starlin Castro

LOL.  This is a sugar coating to a terrible series if i've ever seen one.

When talking about team hitting, why do you sort the graphic on runs scored?  Shouldn't you sort it on AVG or even SLG?

Or let's go crazy, Montero and Matz for Soler, Baez, and Rizzo.

David Wright and Niese for Castro, Soler and Rizzo.

Just think David Wright, if you opened you eyes when you swing, you might start producing also. I am surprised that the "esteemed" Mgr./Coaching staff has not noticed this flaw in you.

What we learned this weekend in Colorado:

1) Mejia needs to close games instead of start

2) Curtis Granderson may be coming around

3) David Wright makes Coors Field look like a pitcher's park

4) Tulowitski needs to be a Met

Anyone else concerned about the lack of power as well as the strikeouts through the first 4 weeks?

You know who else's outfielder's hit well during that series? Colorado's.

Imagine if these team got any production from SS.  Maybe we can be competitive for the entire year...the back of the pen still scares the daylights out of me.

EY should not be playing over any of the current three OF. They produce, he doesn't. His runs scored is luck for him considering how infrequently he has been on base. I'd rather Lagares collecting 2 hits a game, a double here and there, over EY reaching maybe twice in a series and scoring miraculously from errors or great production behind him. Lagares offers way more upside on defense, and CY is a much better defender than EY as well. EY is a bench player, and that's how it should be.

And yet Eric Young was going to get the start yesterday had he not been injured prior to the game.  This team's infatuation with EY is mind-boggling.   Chris Young, Juan Lagares and Curtis Granderson is absolutely the best combination available to the Mets, and yet Eric Young continues to get starts in place of one of those three.  Eric Young is a decent guy, but his intangibles are no match for the tangibles of his teammates.

...it Colorado. How is that not a glaring mistake?

Why would we do that trade?

Then again they could keep Rizzo give me Lake.

@bleedblue4 Shh. Also they have Kris Bryant.

Throw Mejia in the pen and call up Thor and Montero.

Always refreshing to read some mindless fan's opinion on how one of the best players in Mets history should change their hitting approach...

@iamwilpon  Oh yeah?  After one bad inning you want to move Mejia to the pen?  Thank god you don't run this team.

Tulo is an amazing hitter....in coors field. Outside of coors would he be an improvement over Tejada? Sure. My grandmother would be an improvement over Tejada (and she died in 1984). The problem is Tulo's numbers take a dive on the road, but his trade value won't reflect that.

@iamwilpon  1) No, how about they give him time to see if he learns how to make adjustments before we say his starting career is over after 2 or 3 bad games.

2) Hopefully

3) Not sure if sarcasm, but no.

4) Why would Colorado trade their best offensive and 2nd best defensive, face of the franchise player, while they're competing? Not going to happen unless Colorado starts losing at an unbelievable rate.

@iamwilpon What you should've really learned this weekend is the better offense and decent pitching will beat very good pitching and a mediocre offense 90% of the time. It's time to add a bat in this lineup that teams will fear. One that will hit for power as well as hit for average. I don't care what position this player plays but he is needed for this team to move forward. The way you win games is by putting up more runs then the other team.

@Tom Gallagher I actually stated on this website that they should've traded for Blackmon in the offseason and was killed on this site for saying so.

@rvmetsfan  Yes, because we all know every starter in the majors starts all 162 games, without exception.

@rvmetsfan Lagares just came off the DL and I think they wanted to rest his hammy. I'm not an EY guy either, but I don't have an issue if he plays once or twice a week. Twice a week should be the max unless there is an injury situation.

bleedblue4

@Victor Triguero Victor please, your over hyping Lazarus he is by far a lock at the plate so calm down buddy. I like Lagares myself but 3 weeks don't make anyone a lock.

bleedblue4

@pessi_mets It has already been reported Colorado does not want pitching prospects, and are less then interested in their position prospects. And as is stated in the comment above Tulo is producing he is "healthy" and the face of their franchise why would they trade him. Especially to the Mets who have nothing to give them.

Zach Ripple

@bleedblue4 @iamwilpon  No, what we learned is that pitching is far more important than offense. Mets scored 5.5 runs per game in the series yet lost 3 of 4. Why? Because the starting pitching failed to get it done, other than Gee. Mets lost a game they scored 10 runs in. Pitching is what matters.

nymess
nymess

@bleedblue4 @iamwilpon  while I agree another bat (or 2) are needed, the Mets didn't lose this series because they didn't hit enough. they lost because they gave up 28 runs in 3 games. they scored 10 runs in game 3 and still lost. the blame is solely on the pitching.

oleosmirf
oleosmirf

@bleedblue4 @iamwilpon  You couldn't possibly be more wrong.

Pitching > Hitting and it has been that way since the 19th century. The Mets lost games 1-3 because of how dreadful Colon, Wheeler and Mejia pitched, not because the Mets didn't hit well enough...

@bleedblue4 @Tom Gallagher  blackmon will slow down . He has never hit this well before in his life. Come august, if he still near .300 and has 10+ homers, then pat yourself on the back

BringBackDaveTelghe

I agree although the pen guy doesn't have to be a proven closer. A lockdown guy that consistently has eras in the 2's and doesn't walk people would play fine.

The Great Satin Experiment must come to a close...

@bleedblue4 @nymess "Which your proving my point, gotta hit to win my friends" We just had our best hitting series hands down and lost 3 out of 4 games. If that doesn't prove how important good pitching is then I don't know what does.

bleedblue4
bleedblue4

@nymess Which your proving my point, gotta hit to win my friends. The better offense won that series. I love how when a pitcher gets rocked it's always on the pitchers. I mean it's not like Colorado hasn't been doing this to any other staff. It was just those 3 Mets pitchers c'mon guys I know your smarter then that.

Yes they scored 10 they scored 4 as well. Yet it wasn't good enough. Colorado has the perfect lineup. Pure leadoff hitter can also hit for some pop. All their hitters could hit for above average to high average. 5-6 20 -35 Hr hitters. Guy's who steal bases. Patient hitters, selective hitters they on any given day make any pitcher look bad.

bleedblue4
bleedblue4

@oleosmirf They lost the game because their best pitches got crushed. Go back and look at the games and listen to the duo of announcers say. It was a pitchers pitch. Or it was a good pitch blank just went out and got it. Good hitting makes good pitching look bad.
