According to MLBTR, it would cost roughly $25 million to bring back all 11 guys. This, plus the $25 million the team has in commitments, would start them out in 2014 around $50 million, leaving $40-50 million or so for new acquisitions this off season. That might be enough, but I still don’t expect all 11 players to be back. It’s also why I expect Murphy, Davis, Gee and Duda to be mentioned a lot in trade talks over the next couple of months.
It was already reported that Turner will be offered a contract, so it sounds like he’ll be back. That’s fine, I guess. I’m not a huge Turner fan, but that’s more a byproduct of how he’s used. There is also the chance guys get tendered contracts and traded, so that’s a potential outcome as well.
In either case, something has to give. The same players will bring the same results. The roster has to change and there are only 25 spots to do it with…
