Corey Hart

Brewers will look for free-agent 1B, talking to Hart

The Mets, Red Sox, Rays, Rockies and Mariners are among a dozen teams with some sort of interest in free-agent 1B-OF Corey Hart (Puma, Nov. 6Heyman, Dec. 8Bowden, Nov. 19),

The Giants have shown interest in signing Hart, but expect the dollars and years to be too high for them (Baggarly. Dec. 9). He will likely be offered one- and two-year deals, worth around $8 million a year, according to market insiders (Cerrone, Nov. 14).

There are multiple teams currently interested in Hart (Haudricourt), who has said he would take a discount to stay in Milwaukee (MLBTR, Sept. 20). Monday during the Winter Meetings, his agents met the Brewers, who prefer to find a first baseman on the free-agent market (McCalvy, Dec. 9).

The Brewers reportedly have shown interest in acquiring Mets 1B Ike Davis, as well.

Hart is expected to receive full medical clearance and be ready for Spring Training (McCalvy, Dec. 2).

Philip Kossoy here...I'd take Cory Hart for 1 year 8 million!  Our biggest problem is we need another big bat in the Outfield and our cheapo owners Fred & Jeff aren't going to pony up and trade for Matt Kemp or sign Choo so it looks like we may be a .500 team but nothing more in 2014.  Look, the winter's not over.  I'll reserve judgement until April 1st.  Then we can blast the s**t out of ownership!

If it's Davis or Duda... keep Davis, trade Duda.  Davis is a better defender, is younger, has shown better glimpses of what he could be than Duda has.  Their offensive numbers are nearly identical when put a a scale of 162 games.  They both have a mental block.  Davis is cocky and supposedly has an attitude problem and that is a reason he may have struggled (not wanting to work on changing his swing).  Duda has a self esteem problem, has come out saying he is overwhelmed by big situations, and therefore settles on playing conservative instead of being aggressive.

Keep Davis, trade Duda.  I think they reason they are hinting at trading Davis is not that they are more invested in Duda, I think it is because the return on Davis is so much higher.

how about a Murphy to Cleveland for Carlos Santana to play first base for us.   so we can trade Ike and get a ss for both Ike and Duda in a package.

It's not Chris Young AND Corey Hart...It's Chris Young OR Corey Hart. I reallyyyy don't want to have to watch Corey Hart play for the Mets. He's lame in every way. His career, his lack of any Major League accomplishments. I mean really when I go out to Citi, I'm not buying my ticket to watch Mr. Corey Shart out there in right. Love the Grandy signing but pleaaasssseee don't sign Hart

I think our internal options can produce just as well as Hart.  We need a shortstop and a starting pitcher more than we need another option at 1B or OF.

How many people right now wish they were at the meetings in Orlando Fla instead of this cold Icy day here in the Northeast?

Who cares about Hart the Mets are going to have Duda or Davis at first.

Agreed. Dump him and Duda - I've seen just about enough of both - and sign someone who's actually gotten it done consistently before. He won't be expensive either. It really shouldn't be a lot to ask.

And Davis and Duda aren't lame?

"I think our internal options can produce just as well as..."

This comment sounds familiar. And it almost never happens. Hm.

Hart posted an OPS of at least .840 for THREE STRAIGHT FULL seasons from 2010-2012. Duda managed that OPS once in 2011 for under 400 AB. And Ike also only managed that once - in 2011 for 129 AB. But yea, let's trust in one of them. Again.

Let's see: Hart can hit 20-30 HRs consistently and about 30 to 40 points higher than Davis and Duda. I'd take a flyer on Hart, even if it's just for the sake of change. Yes, he'll cost more and he's older, but sometimes you have to take a chance.
