Jim Bowden of Sirius XM says, while negotiations on a contract extension with R.A. Dickey are moving at a “snails pace,” the Mets are willing to improve their offer.
Meanwhile, a team insider told Andy Martino of the Daily News that, though a deal isn’t close at the moment, contract talks between R.A. Dickey and the Mets “could heat up soon.”
Earlier today, MetsBlog’s Matthew Cerrone said the two sides are considering a meeting in Nashville next week, with all key parties present, at which point the situation could hopefully reach a conclusion, assuming any last minute efforts to trade him fall short. Right now, people in baseball tell Cerrone the Mets can probably lock up Dickey for the next three years at around $25 million.
That said, as of now there are so such plans a meeting in Nashville, though Dickey is willing to do so if needed, Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal said on Twitter.
According to TV Rage, Dickey is scheduled to be a guest on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show in New York next Tuesday, which is Day 2 of the Winter Meetings.
