Lucas Duda, Ike Davis

The first base competition is heating up… a month late

Lucas Duda returned to hit a home run and play five innings at first base Friday, after missing most of March with a hamstring injury.

Terry Collins later said it is extremely very unlikely Duda will get playing time in the outfield.

Ike Davis returned from a calf strain Thursday and had three hits in six at bats.

“If somebody gets off to a slow start, we’re going to make a change,” said Collins (ESPN, Mar. 22). “We said we’re going to win baseball games, so we’ve got to get out of the gate, and we’ve got to get out of it on a positive note. And if someone slumps, we’ve got someone behind him.”

Does anyone remember when Davis had valley fever a few years back? Do you think that could explain why he left yesterday's game with fatigue and why he was so bad these past couple years?

They don't have anyone. Most likely Davis but he is a question mark. Hire the bat boy. You could do worse.

Ike Davis........it's a no brainer. Ike has more potential & has a great glove at first.

I want Ike Davis to wake up and the Mets convert Lucas Duda into a catcher. I dont care if it takes a whole season to do it in the minors. It would focus him as i think playing the field makes him lost. He has a good arm for it too. He has a Mike Piazza build too so why not? It would solve soo many problems.

I agree with Joe. Ike needs glasses or contacts before you let him have another at-bat.

Would REALLY love Keith...but if I have to choose, I like Ike!!!! I used to work with Duda's dad but I have to go with Ike.

Ike Davis!!!!! Hell with the bat; his glove is solid and he will save more runs that he will ever bat in, which is what really matters in the end.
