Michael Baron, ContributorThe inaugural Queens Baseball Convention took place on Saturday at McFadden’s Citi Field.
During the QBC, there were many different vendors selling their Mets-related memorabilia, as well as several panels including a discussion about new media and Mets blogging, a Q&A session with Brooklyn Cyclones GM Steve Cohen, and talks with former Mets Ed Kranepool, Art Shamsky and Ron Darling.
It was also a fantastic opportunity to get together with fellow fans on a cold winter day to talk about the team, their off-season changes as well as their chances in the upcoming season. It almost felt like a regular season game, with people dressed in Mets regalia, enjoying arguments about the team over a beer at the ballpark.
Shannon Shark and Keith Blacknick from Metspolice.com and Darren Meenan from The 7 Line spearheaded the event, and Ed Marcus from Metsmerizedonline.com, Stephen Keane from Kranepool Society, Michael Donato from The Optimistic Mets Fan, and Kerel Cooper from OntheBlack.com helped put the event together to make the whole day possible. They all worked very hard to create a fantastic day for all in attendance, and they deserve a lot of praise for their efforts.
It was a lot of fun, and I am really looking forward to next year’s QBC.
Here, Ron Darling discusses his thoughts on the upcoming season for the Mets from the QBC:
