Terry suggests overuse might have caused Byrdak’s injury

According to MetsBlog’s Matthew Cerrone, Terry Collins said injuries such as the one incurred by Tim Byrdak happen due to overuse.

Collins said Byrdak has taken great care of himself, but said there is no question he was used more than he should have been.

With that said, Collins said he was a successful piece to the bullpen, and the team wouldn’t have been where it was without him.

As far as a second left-handed reliever goes, Terry said the team talked repeatedly about having one early in the year, but they did not have the internal options to add to the Major League bullpen.

Byrdak was placed on the disabled list last Friday with soreness in his left shoulder, and was diagnosed with a torn anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder yesterday.
