According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Terry Collins prefers to have Ruben Tejada spend next season in Triple-A.
Tejada looked so overwhelmed at the plate last year. He hit a little bit towards the end, but I think he would be better off at least starting the year in the minors. He also struggled defensively at times, but the concern to me is whether or not he will be able to hit at the major league level.
If Tejada goes back to the minors, I would think the second base job, at least right now, would go to Daniel Murphy. While he will likely be an upgrade to Tejada offensively, his glove scares me to death.
Speaking of Murphy, he was playing second base for Los Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League, but hasn’t played since November 23 when he injured his left hanstring. He was hitting .320 with a .395 on base percentage with four home runs and 22 RBI in 103 at bats this winter.
However, Tejada is not playing winter ball this season, but according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, his opportunity to play in Venezuela fell through.
