Scott Rice 1 (Baron)

Terry Collins thinks Scott Rice’s 2013 is catching up with him

Mets reliever Scott Rice allowed two runs Sunday and now has a 13.50 ERA.

Terry Collins said last year’s workload may be catching up him.

“A lot of times the next year, when you pitch in that many games for the first time in your life, your arm doesn’t bounce back real fast,” Collins said after Sunday’s loss (Bergen Record, Apr. 14). “It takes a little time.”

Rice pitched in 73 games last season, had a 3.71 ERA, but ended the year early to have surgery for a hernia in September.

According to Collins, Rice is struggling to command his sinker.

And who was responsible for trotting him out there so often?

You mean counting on a guy who took 15yrs to finally make the majors and was over used and didn't finish the season needing surgery as virtually your only LH RP wasn't a smart idea?

Well, using him 70-something times in five months certain;y didn't help things. How is it that this team can never seem to find a leftie with even a modicum of success against right-handed bats?

I thinks Collins is not using him enough to make him effective.  Last year he was used at every drop of that hat ad mostly thrived.  H? e has gone almost 6 games without getting in a game this year and when he did he was taken out after a few pitches.  Yesterday was the 1st time he got any significant time out there and it did not go that well

2013 isn't catching up with Rice. His glaring lack of talent is.

But, hey, he works cheap, right?

Collins is a baseball idiot who knows as much about managing a big league team as the man in the moon.   He cries when he should be doing something and waits until the sky has fallen before he takes any action.  Case in point: the horrible umpiring by the home plate umpire.  He let Wright and Murphy stew for half the game waiting until they were tossed before standing up for them.  Just one of the many reasons he should be sent on his way and baseball man with guts as well as brains is hired.  And by the way, same goes for Alderson.  I know that won't happen this season but does me good to rant about it.

So, was that an apology from TC for ruining the guy?

According to Collins, Rice is struggling to command his sinker... Correction...TC means stinker.

Rice was lucky and had good success in 2013. Scott has come off his high and now it's business as usual.

He is a career minor leaguer, just like you Terry. The sooner TC gets off this team the better

he has a weak arm due to last year ? WELL WHO WAS THE PERSON PUTTING HIM IN ALL THOSE GAMES ! !

What is catching up to him is two things: 1-he was in the minors for so long because he wasn't that good to begin with, and 2-Terry doesn't know how to manage a bullpen.

Terry will burn out all the arms in the pen again and again and again.

Collins, Rice and Familia all need to be out of the majors.

So Collins puts the guy in 73 times last year and then this year is saying, maybe the workload is catching up.  And as a result, Collins has used him in 6 of the first 12 games.  Hmm.  Gee Terry, don't you think that could happen when you pitch guys so much?

I love rices' story but maybe, just maybe, there was a reason he was in the minors for all those years.

@Rich Towler  Agreed.  Collins is the worse manager i seen.  He always cries about something, and he never pushes the envelope-- he sees his team struggling to score runs and instead of him trying to put on a hit and run, or a squeeze play,  he just sits there like a moron.  He manages scared!
