Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson

Terry Collins is not to blame for losing record, says GM

In no way, shape or form does Sandy Alderson believe managerial tactics are to blame for his team’s losing record, his colleagues told columnist Andy Martino (Daily News, June 17).

Also, “He truly does not believe in change for the sake of change, and speaks often of the risks of that approach,” explains Martino on his blog. “This GM feels that a team can make itself worse, if its decisions are guided by emotion or narrative, rather than cold logic.”

In Alderson’s view, his manager’s top responsibility is to keep his roster playing hard and teaching them how to be big-league ballplayers, which he is doing, the GM recently told columnist Joel Sherman (NY Post, June 10).

Last week, Mets ownership told Collins his job is safe, despite speculation that he could be on the hot seat, a baseball source said Friday (Newsday, June 14). Similarly, Alderson met with Collins earlier that week and told him the same.

Collins is in the first year of a recently signed two-year contract with an option for 2016.

When your making moves based on payroll in a newyork market for example thinking of trading Murphy

Who might be your best hitter ,, because granderson wright and Murphy can't Dominate the payroll the way they do you need to sell the team. Yes Freddy and jeffy

Im done with this team very disappointed imnot gonna follow or comment anymore. Just hire DUSTY BAKER!!!!. But "Wait til next year" and the year after that and the year after that and the year after that... you get the picture. Im gonna root for the Royals cause at least their headed in the right direction.

What top notch manager in his right mind would put up with a roster the current GM has assembled? But Terry seems very comfortable. Davey Johnson managed in the Mets farm system before leading the Mets to its first WS in twenty years..  Arizona hired LaRussa to jump start their team (review/fire/get rid of).....Its time for a change. However, no light at the end of the tunnel to be seen. Why waste the breath... Sandy doesn't read or care about fans/ blogs...

The more Sandy talks, the lamer he sounds.  His credibility is shot.

Here's another example of Alderson's flawed philosophy (which, for all its bluster, has garnered ONE ring):

A manager's job is not to teach grown men how to be big-league ballplayers and get them to play hard -- that's a function of the minor league system and an individual player's integrity. Rather, a manager's role is to make sound tactical decisions, effectively administer resources and promote standards.

Alderson and his regime can "hunt strikes" in fourth place all year long. I'm a sucker for Met teams that hunted wins and DOMINATED.

"Cold Logic"  the concept used to sign Valverde, Farnsworth, C. Young and Granderson.  Now that's what I call COLD LOGIC.

What difference does it make if Collins is fired?  He has another year on his contract and he is not going to get another one so he might as well be gone now......he still gets paid regardless.

Keith always mentions "fundsies" (fundamentals) when players make mistakes.  Isn't it the responsibility of the coaching staff to instruct players on this and reinforce proper playing procedures? I see a lot of mistakes going on.  Maybe it's time this team takes a closer look at the value our scouts.  They suck!

Technically he's right. The blame falls squarely on the Wilpons. If they hadn't got involved with Madoff they wouldn't be in the position they're in now and they could afford some better players. They should just sell the team and retire comfortably instead of dragging the team and their fans through this.

Not sure what good getting a hitter would do at this point.. Based on how they're playing, contending is a foreign concept. As far as Sandy thinks the players are playing hard for tc, that might be, but they're not playing right!

Wow! Even IF the Mets were playing AVERAGE DEFENSE and IF Terry Collins was a LITTLE BIT more SANE and SOBER, Then The Metropolitans would have been in sole posession of FIRST PLACE In the Division GRANTING that the BRAVES And Nationals CHOKE like the Mets Did in the 2007 Season Throughout the 2008 Season! I feel so sorry for the Mets, it's like I wanna play shortstop and leadoff for the Mets whenever I see Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada and Lucas Duda make absolutely comical but CRUCIAL Errors! If They're gonna make that many crucial errors why doesn't Terry Collins play Second Base? Why doesn't Keith Hernandez Play First Base? Fran Healy could CATCH for the Mets instead of Travis D'Arnaud and Kevin Burkhart can be GroundsKeeper Willy for Citi Field. And who knows while Kevin Burkhart is doing the hard work at Citi Field, he can cheat and shorten the dimensions For David Wright to hit more homers!

This is an irrelevant question but, "If Noah Syndergaard is going to be limited in terms of Innings Pitched, Would it be better off having Noah Syndergaard in the BULLPEN for the METS?"

Mets are so fundamentally bad it is embarrassing and that is managers and coaches fault to a certain extent. Murphy doesn't apply tag, Duda doesn't cover 1st and that is just one inning tonight, base running gaffes all year, horrible situational hitting, this team is a joke

It's a combination of all parties involved. But, I think Collins is much lower on the list.

I will never go to a game until Sandy is out. Take Terry with you. He makes Steve Phillips and Omar look like gods.

Better yet...Wilpons sell the darn team!

So, Sandy... who the hell is responsible for 6 years of crap?  I went through this in the late 70s, but, by the early 1980s, there was improvement and the horizon looked bright.  The horizon looks as bleak as the present, and I'm sick of the lack of a coherent explanation for this.

Who is asking Sandy to do this? Nobody we are asking him to make good decisions to help the team.

In summary, in the past few days Alderson has said:  "Manager, good; beer good; fans bad; twitter bad; blogs bad."  Did I miss anything?

I'm confused.  Isn't there a way the Wilpons can sell  the Mets while maintaining control of the Willets Point project?  (which I believe this is all about anyway)  Big Wilpon wants to create a legacy to leave for lil Wilpon.  Ok ...although I was under the impression you created your OWN legacy but whatever....  If the Mets continue on the current tack what EXACTLY is being left?  A moribund franchise with more debt than revenue than can be generated by the team's remaining fans?

"In Alderson’s view, his manager’s top responsibility is to keep his roster playing hard and teaching them how to be big-league ballplayers.."  What in the heck are you talking about Sandy?  This isn't an expansion team full of young prospects.  Wright, Murphy, Colon, Niese,Granderson, the Youngs, Duda, Abreau, and (even) Tejada have been "big league ballplayers" for years.  To say that they need to be taught how to be "big league ballplayers" is insulting.  There is nothing that Terry Collins can teach Chris Young how not to kill a rally.  There is nothing Terry Collins can teach to Lucas Duda about being a more consistent hitter.

"...teaching them how to be big league ballplayers?" He makes it seem that the entire team is scared to go on the road, and they need a bed check.

He basically called the entire Mets' roster immature underachieving babies.

With comments like that, I think Sandy is going to lose this clubhouse real soon.  Time to go you charlatan.

@Doubleday then why does he want to hand down this dying franchise to  his son? Some warped sense of entitlement?   If anything the reconstruction project will be worth more in the long run than a baseball team. So why is he holding on to it so tightly considering no one (including Saul apparently) believes he or his son can navigate thru this ?

@DarrolRayFanClub The team is worth a billion dollars only because they are a NY team; nobody is relocating the Mets.  I've heard the rumors too, but do the numbers in your head and you'll see what's actually happening here.
