Terry Collins ejected for first time this season

Umpire Gary Cederstrom ejected Terry Collins from Thursday’s game after arguing a replay call he felt went against the Mets in the fifth inning.

“Gary handled it just like he was supposed to,” Collins said. “He said, ‘The play stands, and I’ve got nothing else to say.’ I said, ‘Well, I’ve got something to say.”

Mets C Taylor Teagarden hit a ground ball to start the fifth inning, but it was bobbled by Brewers 1B Mark Reynolds. The play at first base was close, Angel Hernandez signaled out, replay backed him up, but Collins disagreed.

“I’ve seen closer plays overturned,” Collins told reporters. “They just said the play stands. It would be nice to know what angle they were looking at.”

Nevertheless, despite the drama, Collins said he still supports replay in baseball.

“I think it’s been outstanding,” he said. “I think the system works.”

Cant expect to win many games with names like Recker, den dekker, Flores, Tejada, Duda, Young, Teagarden on the roster

Selig's family owns the Brewers.  There seems to be a conflict of interest here when it comes to replay reviews involving the Brewers.

‘Well, I’ve got something to say.”

Please post your comment on what you think Terry had to say...

I see Metsblog wants to start the weekend early...Thursday is today.  Also, I wish Collins did more so he would be suspended.

I wish he had made contact with the ump. We would have had a week long vacation from Terry.

The SNY booth was somewhat split on it as they were reviewing though Gary made it out like it was blatantly clear afterwards (the other two didn't seem to be so gung ho). It wasn't really that important of a play or part of the game. Somewhat strange that he picked there to get thrown out. There was probably other cases, including to rile up the team or something, where being thrown out would make more sense.  Shrug.

Bad call backed up by a bad replay ruling. Glad Collins came out and argued for his player. I still wish Wally was here.

Blown call all the way around. I think TC had a pizza delivered and asked the ump to eject him. Note ... Colon left with TC. It was a Pizza Supreme.

It did look like he had to ask to be thrown out. LOL

Can we eject him from the dugout permanently and reassign him to Port St. Lucie?

It was close.  Did that call change the outcome?  Happy to hear TC supports replay.  He'll be yelling at the TV from the couch when the umps miss a call soon enough.

I think the ump even asked him if he wanted to get thrown out for he started his arm, dropped it and said something to Collins, then threw him out.

Nice grandstanding but you have to remember it was Hernandez who made the call. Mets never get a close call from him, right or wrong.

@metsblog Angel Hernandez is a disgrace to the sport and to umpiring in general. He is a BAD umpire.

Say a prayer for Terry, this CAN NOT be an easy job for him.

" Umpire Gary Cederstrom ejected Terry Collins from Thursday’s game "

Was it an early morning game?  Like around sunrise?.  Perhaps a Midnight Madness game?

He's not even good at getting thrown out of a game.what a wuss. He had to beg & plead just to get thrown out.

Only fair. The way his team plays has ejected 2M fans from the stands.

This is the beginning of the end for TC. He has changed the lineup, Mets lose. He pushes buttons, Mets lose. He gets new players, Mets lose. He has now stooped to getting tossed to fire up team, Mets lose. He is a losing manager of a losing team. Something has to give.

@John Paul Cullinane  "Please ump, we're a tired team.  We played a lot of extra innings last week, then had to go to Chicago and SF.  We are so very tired!!!!"

Seriously? The first out in a middle inning when we were down by 3 runs? How is that not an important out? And as for the play not being clear, I turned on the Brewers broadcast and even THEIR announcers thought it would be overturned. That's always a clear indicator that it was obvious.

@mets2death Tejeda has been playing better of late but he still doesn't look like the future, so yeah, this is dubious strategy.

@hundley9 I understand small typos here and there, but they constantly confuse days - I don't get it.

Hey Joe, could you pass whatever it is that you're smoking...?  Must be dynamite!

@Joe Paulson He might have been "hot" for 2-3 days but he is 1 for his last 15 and is batting .223 on the season.  Time to let Flores play - he hasn't started in 6 days and he is supposed to be "sharing" SS with Tejada.
