Umpire Gary Cederstrom ejected Terry Collins from Thursday’s game after arguing a replay call he felt went against the Mets in the fifth inning.
“Gary handled it just like he was supposed to,” Collins said. “He said, ‘The play stands, and I’ve got nothing else to say.’ I said, ‘Well, I’ve got something to say.”
Mets C Taylor Teagarden hit a ground ball to start the fifth inning, but it was bobbled by Brewers 1B Mark Reynolds. The play at first base was close, Angel Hernandez signaled out, replay backed him up, but Collins disagreed.
“I’ve seen closer plays overturned,” Collins told reporters. “They just said the play stands. It would be nice to know what angle they were looking at.”
Nevertheless, despite the drama, Collins said he still supports replay in baseball.
“I think it’s been outstanding,” he said. “I think the system works.”
