Today at Citi Field, Ruben Tejada spoke with reporters and said he intends to arrive to camp in Port St. Lucie on Saturday.
Last year at Spring Training, Terry Collins scrutinized Tejada for not arriving to camp early to work with Daniel Murphy on middle infield drills.
Tejada said he came to New York to workout with Jose Reyes on January 24. He worked specifically with him on base stealing and hopes to run more in 2013.
Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:
This can be discussed more during camp, but Tejada doesn’t need to steal more bases to become a better base runner and leadoff hitter. He needs to be more intelligent on the bases, steal at strategic times, and get on base more consistently to be better. Stolen bases would be the icing on the cake to his game, but he’s not that fast, so that shouldn’t be a primary goal for him.
