Teams will be interested in David Wright, like the Rockies…

SiriusXM radio host Dino Costa said on Twitter last night, “I’m hearing David Wright-to-the-Rockies rumors.”

It would not surprise me to learn of the Rockies calling the Mets this winter about Wright, since it would not be the first time it’s happened. The Rockies have been interested in him for years, going back to the summer of 2010. However, insiders have told me the two sides have never gone too far down the road in talks.

It’s worth noting that Costa was first to report Jose Reyes would sign with the Marlins last year, three weeks before Reyes finalized his deal in Miami. It’s also worth noting that Costa did a radio show in Denver and did work on Rockies post-game show, so it stands to reason he could still have knowledgeable sources there. At the same time, after Jerry Manuel was fired, Costa said Wally Backman would be the Mets next manager, according to ‘impeccable sources.’ So, who knows…

At any rate, I still expect the Mets and Wright to hammer out a contract extension this winter. I know the two sides are talking, things went well when they met in Virginia, and – though they were in a bit of a stalemate last week (with Wright wanting seven guaranteed years and the Mets offering six) – there is mutual interest.
